Order Writer Position

I was thinking about applying for an open grocery order writer job at a nearby store.
Someone told me that that the order writer job is going to be discontinued soon.
If that is going to happen, I don’t want to apply.
Does anyone out there know if this is true?

Ask yourself if an extra buck or so is worth becoming the scapegoat for your team anytime something goes wrong ( if it is your fault or not). It is a lot of extra headaches for very little compensation.

One thing I tell every potential buyer is that buyers are the punching bags of the team. Literally nothing you do is your fault but you will get all the blame when things go wrong and none of the praise when things go right.

Don't waste your time if you are going to make any move have it be outside the company. Being buyer sucks and everything is super disorganized and it's not worth the headache.

Even grocery stores with inventory management robots still need the humans.

They been talking about that for years, I been with the company over 15 years and I heard it since then. Yes, a couple of years ago they restructure some regions which a lot of buyers got let go. But with the introduction of the order system you still need a buyer. Plus the buyer position is evolving into a more of a in store inventory management. Since the system can't do a good job by itself.

Actually years ago they laid off half of all buyers. You could take severance or fight for the remaining positions.

Secondly yes, it probably will happen eventually but probably not any time soon. The Instock program is designed to order for the buyers but a human still needs to interact with it. It isn't working very well. It's probably years out.

order writers are one of the positions that has been talked about being phased out (or at least evolved into something else) for years. dont let the rumors make the decisions for you.

my opinion is- yes, judging by the systems being put into place, buyers will evolve into something else-- at some point. but its hard to put a timeline on a company that cant even retain new team members more than 2 months.

If you go far back enough in this forum, people were saying the same thing 5 years ago and it still hasn't happened.
