Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Where did the pride to work here disappear?

The other day, for the first time, I decided to remain silent about working at BNY Mellon.
I used to be proud to have a job here, but not anymore. And not only do I no longer have the passion to work here, but I know that many others no longer have it either. It is sad how much this place has stagnated over time.

All pride was eliminated after we were acquired, systematically displaced, and the geographical glass ceiling installed. This is why the higher you look up the chain, your “Leaders” have less education, less experience, less skills and less talent. Darn Bob Kelley destroyed the crown jewel of Custody.

Where did the respect go?

It was fired by Todd and Charlie.

Having BNY on your LinkedIn is an excuse for interview questions like, “why did you stay there so long,” or just be blackballed from interviews.

A lot of us are still here because the skills aren't necessarily transferable unless you're in sales, relationship management, project management, or low level process type work.
As a result the middle is shut out from outside opportunities in many cases.
Before y'all flame me...it's not impossible to find other opportunities, just more of a challenge if you're very tenured and used to a certain way of doing things.
With 2 kids I personally don't have the time or want to put effort into "up-skilling", but it's not impossible.

4 years? You’re lucky. Try 14. Mmmm…. what happened 14 years ago I wonder…

For me, it was about 4 years ago when our department chief stood up in front of a meeting of about 150 of our Pittsburgh group members and told us we would all be expected to "do more...with less."

It didn't take long to figure out the "with less" part meant fewer members on our team but the same volume of work to be distributed among the rest of us. And, perhaps not less pay, but certainly not any appropriate cost-of-living increases, either.

In a related note, our team all happened to notice that over that time BNYM profits didn't seem to be any less at all.

That's funny. I just looked up a couple ex coworkers who were at the bank little over a year and neither mention it on their linkedin profile.
