Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Survey Released

Here's your chance - make sure you answer how you feel. It's up to them if they will honor the survey results, but if those who really want to WFH don't answer it, then all the office "lovers" that answer instead will skew the results. Please help us all who want to WFH. Do not mean this derogatory to those who prefer being in the office, but I have a feeling that true number is significantly less than those who want to WFH.

Also, there are some questions that don't specifically call out only working from home. Please make sure to select whatever answer is similar to "none of these choices" and specifically type out the answer for WFH. I think one question specifically mentioned every option for working except solely being at home.... There's a bit of a bias on some of the questioning and we need to make our voices clear.

Sadly if you think the survey isn't tracked, try taking it a second time...

Please stop encouraging people to use comments. Comments are always discarded in a survey bc there’s no way to quantify them. You must select an option (hybrid) or we are going to skew results to work full time in office.

My strategy was the same. I did think of things they couldn’t really fix for me. Taller cubicles doesn’t necessarily drown out noise. Wellness programs doesn’t necessarily reduce stress. They’ll realize that no matter how much money they spend trying to fix those buildings or cater to the choices on the survey it will never give people the kind of satisfaction they’re looking for. Nothing can beat working from home. It’s your home, the place you love and you get to work from it. Statistics don’t lie. It showed in their record profits that people worked harder but was happier for it..

Generally the "none of the above" selections are probably going to be discarded as outliers. It's nearly impossible to quantify those or what they mean. It's better to pick the most suitable options from those provided, so that when they run metrics, at least the hybrid options register higher than the office only options.

I would have been fired a loooong time ago if the survey wasn't anonymous.

In 20 years at the bank I have never thought any survey I took was anonymous.

For the question “when working from home or an alternative work schedule, what is most valuable to you?”

It was hard to select just 3 because all of them apply! My strategy was to answer them based off something HR can’t fix in office.

Reduced commuting costs and parking costs, they could offer a stipend or some benefit to keep you going in office

Reduced interruptions or distractions, for work places with cubicles they could make them taller

Reduced commute time, how can they possibly control that???

Reduced levels of stress, maybe they can offer a wellness app but otherwise can’t control it

Reduce time and activities to prep and get ready for work, how could they control that?

Anyone else taking this strategy? I think it’s the most realistic considering that’s what they’ll most likely try to do with this. Everything that matters to me about wfh I wrote on the in office page in the comment box.

My free form answers

  1. None of these

I can tell from the first question this is a bogus rigged survey! Nothing about WFH. I have access to the same tools and resources as in the office. I have less distractions at home then in the office. I have less stress at home than in the office. I have to follow the same start and stop times at home as in the office

Not returning to the office is most important to me. I have proven over 2 years plus I am still a top performer in my department. I have no idea why BM wants all his minions in the office when we have (or some of us have) proven WFH is a working viable option. He is leaving us in the past not bringing us into the future. We are soon to be the 21th century buggy whip manufacturers.

Same thing here. Commented WFH and nothing above applied.

I am the only one left because my teammates quit. Maybe I need more food to eat in the office with myself. Why not offer remote work so we can get staff back? Not sure what the point is of the survey.

Sadly they’re reluctant to change with the times and wouldn’t until enough people leave or refuse to go back. Ultimately everyone needs to do what they feel is best for them. I think the evidence is clear that the majority prefers to work remotely. Renovating offices spaces and providing free lunches isn’t an incentive for people to go back to the office, especially for people who have children and are paying for expensive child care with the little they make. Not to mention food and gas cost have gone up. I think most parent are able to balance their lives better working from home and still manage to make their job a priority. The experience of Covid changed a lot of people and they don’t see going back to BAU as an option despite what the bank’s leaders says. As remote work becomes more and more popular there will be more and more opportunities. You just have to be willing to do the work to get out.

Yeah, give your true answers and then get laid off or no raise. Nothing is anonymous.

I always say I’m happy and love my manager, even if I’m miserable.

No issues with RTO. Time to get another job if you hate the office so much.

This is all a ploy to gaslight the employees into thinking they're in the minority when it comes to wanting to work from home. The results will say that everyone wants to work in the office all the time.

It's similar to how they release that yearly report to try and convince employees that they're making more per year than they think when they factor in 401k contributions and health benefits coverage.

They treat their employees like they're mo--ns. They get what they pay for

I don’t want a hybrid. I will eventually leave this bank for a remote opportunity if they don’t offer remote. I love my job and it’s the only reason why I haven’t started posting.

I feel that the bank continues to play with fire. In the mean time they’re losing people with critical skill sets. I don’t think they realize there’s no way around offering work from home. With so many other businesses offering work from home, people will continue to be attracted to those opportunities and leave. Work from home is here to stay. Not only do the majority prefers it, some businesses realize they’re better off for it. Eventually they will get the bottom of the barrel with skill set and not be as competitive. This is probably the best description of the survey that I have read, “ This survey is beyond terrible. As we remove your limbs, do you prefer your left hand chopped off or your right?” I really don’t see what difference it makes where you work as long as the job get done. JP Morgan owns their real estate and their CEO walked his talk back. Why is this bank being so stubborn?

Have you noticed how the stock has been dropping since March 31? The drop in quality at the bank and the rising errors due to morale and lack of workers (and loss of experienced workers) is hitting the bank and getting out the customers. Once full RTO hits in May everything will hit the fan. Morale might cause heavier conflicts in the office, all the issues associated with this RTO will make it worse as well. Error rates will rise more as more people likely will leave or be fired after some physical or verbal altercations. You see the stock dropping. Read the signs. Need to sell now and also move your money to another bank or credit union. Get your money out before you lose a fortune when it all collapses in a few months.

The choices don’t give a WFH option because executive leadership (CB) does not approve. They want everyone in the office Monday-Friday from 8-4:30 or from 9-5:30. They pride themselves as a flexible work place but it’s simply not true. They don’t even offer a four day work week anymore, so their goal is to let you get your frustrations out via survey which is not anonymous (despite saying so), and then agree on a rare occasion to allow you to work from home. For example, if you are having a refrigerator delivered you can WFH. That’s it. Period. End of subject. May 4th. Welcome back. Here’s a chocolate now sit down, shut up and make shareholders a profit.
