It breaks my heart to see it, but it's happening. Even some of the biggest companies that were talking about going primarily remote after the pandemic is over are changing their toon and are easing people back into the office in hybrid mode. All of this is happening despite many studies that have shown that people are happier and more productive when working from home. Both of these things were true for me. I was happier and more productive while working fully from home. Now I'm becoming miserable and considering quitting. I don't see how this helps the company in any way.

Let's be honest, studies today will show you anything you want them to. Not much actual research is being put into them. Hybrid appears to be the way of the future.
Yep. I left the bank right before COVID but got to WFH because of the pandemic. We are all back in the office now 5x a week. I hate it. But lots and lots of companies are making people come back. I don’t know why people think it’s only the bank.
I think you're missing the point.
Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are also bringing people back 5 days a week though Morgan Stanley says not until Labor Day.
Most of the "hybrid" is just soft selling coming back into the office.
Fewer remote jobs being posted and the economy is about to take a major hit.
I know that's tough to hear because it's not what everyone wants to hear but this cycle has happened before. This is the longest but the pattern is happening all over again.
There is always a swing between employee power and employer power. As the economy gets worse, employer power will grow and watch a lot of companies stop hybrid and just expect in office work again.
Best to be prepared for it no matter how much you don't want to hear it.
Disagree wholeheartedly. I don’t know if any company requiring 5 days in office, except BOA.
I'm the Cassandra of remote work.
I've been trying to tell people we've seen this song and dance before. Everyone thinks the pandemic is special but we've seen the same pattern of some trend that gets a bunch of companies to try and do remote work, they do it for awhile, everything seems great, then the issues of never having team members face-to-face resurface, the people who work hard get more dumped on them and carry the team for awhile, they eventually leave, things get worse now that top performers are gone, management brings everyone back.
The End.
Same as it ever was.
I know no one likes to hear it but this always happens. Those studies are self-reported. I put no faith in them. Who is going to answer "No, I'm less productive than ever!"?
The worst part about remote work is that at least in the office the people who work the hardest can ask for help and people have to look them in the eye before telling them no.
Also, remote work isn't a unicorn. I've known people in remote work jobs since the 90's. It's just not something that is widely available but it didn't magically appear in 2020 either. Problem is when the economy goes south, and it's about to hit the mortgage industry hard, the first people released are remote workers.
