Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

It doesn’t surprise me that younger people don't think much of BNYM

I recently had the opportunity to meet a few young and talented people who didn’t even want to consider looking for a job here because they think BNY Mellon is very much stuck in the past. Such a thing does not surprise me at all because the bank's reputation has deteriorated. I just hope that the leadership will give it some thought, because obviously young and capable people are increasingly avoiding this place?

Yet these younger employees who are not attracted to the place can get a higher salary than highly skilled veterans that will be here after the higher paid inexperienced “talent” is long gone, unhappy with our 2% raises. RV is working on bringing in his talented colleagues from GS……don’t worry they will come in making a premium salary too and be long gone when the troubled times arrive.

Touché… you’ve accidentally discovered the answer! This has been the case for all of human history… . welcome to adulthood! Every day you’ve got to ki-l something and bring it home or panhandle from someone else who does. Animals (including newcomers and managers) do it.

You’re at a decision point and I encourage you to look at it from all angles. I wish you luck and am rooting but honestly… well, I’ve said too much already.

Sincerely, good luck.

The world is your oyster. Why would anyone beginning a career in Financial Services even consider applying to a custody bank? Understood on student loan debt and the need for a paycheck, but seriously now, it’s been that way for 40 years.

Nothing will change until you do. It is grownup time.

This is really seriously self centered, as millennials all too often are.

BNY will never be attractive to ANY PEOPLE OF ANY AGE unless the benefits and pay are absolutely stellar, period.

Recent scientific studies indicate that the Earth revolved around the Sun prior to the birth of the millennials and controlled experiments seem to predict that this will continue after they are gone.

Pay is low relative to other options, period. There's really nothing else to it. You can talk about archaic processes, lack of technology, business reputation, etc but that's all secondary to the fact that you can make much much better money at literally any other financial institution. Until they give in and fix it instead of whine about staffing difficulties it won't get better.

The word is out. Everybody knows the archaic clerical processes and ancient technology. It’s a place to get away from, not a destination for a new job much less a career.

Maybe Robin will change things because, before his appointment, I'd have to say with certainty that the EC would not give it thought.

For everyone's sake, I hope they do. My leaders always told me that we could easily replace every single employee (many of them quite good and many severely underpaid) with far superior talent.

Hasn't happened that way. The (much higher paid) people they brought it largely failed and many quickly departed.
