Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Am I working in a hostile work environment ?

  1. Salaried but lunches are timed by boss. If I am running over 2-3 minutes boss asks if something is wrong. Sometimes don’t even get a lunch
  2. Told I ask to many questions and my meetings run over
  3. Takes initiative to respond to emails but boss asks why I sent out email without discussing him first. Interjects in emails.
  4. Asked for raise and was told that I made a mistake last week and my work is not accurate and there is no time for re work
  • Been here for five years .. cant do work without my bosses approval but is told I need to take more initiative to complete work on my own . Worried I am asking to many questions.

It really does sound like you’re mailing it in.

First job after college I’d bet, am I right?

My dweeb boss once hired an unqualified female because she was attractive. Unclear if he thought realtions would occur after this but she was clearly hired for her looks. She was in a position that she could not handle. Typical BNY.

Slacking at work is never a good look. You need to rethink your entitlement attitude. If your manager is dropping hints then your coworkers certainly are as well… to you AND your manager.

Sounds like you are problematic employee that managers dislike working with (troubled) who are also bad workers. Do yourself a favor and find a new job, lots of new openings and suspect that company will tolerate you taking extended lunch breaks.

It’s hard to know for sure what’s going on. Perhaps your performance and judgment are so dodgy that Manager has to correct you in emails and force compliance with minimal attendance standards.

That’s probably not the case. What’s constructive to focus on is the fact that this relationship has gone asunder. This manager is going to sever you.

There’s a Hail Mary you could try, involving engaging your manager in a serious discussion wherein you explore a path to salvaging the relationship.

But I think he’s a real problem. Start exploring your options.

No. Unless you consider making sure you're doing your job as hostile.

I confirm that it has been this way in banking since 1980. I recommend leaving. Do whatever it takes to find an outward facing position. Better is to expand your search outside of financial services.

Good luck, and network.

I've worked in a hostile work environment since my first job in 1992, and it never ended with each company I went to.

That's nothing compared to the hostile environment created against straight white men.

Sounds like the POS you work for is the textbook definition of a micromanager and is only looking to protect himself. I'd give serious consideration to an internal transfer.

There are still decent managers here, many of which can do better financially elsewhere. I am lucky enough to have a good one.
