Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Staffing issues

When is somebody going to do something about staffing? We are expected to pick up ungodly amounts of work because they're either not capable of hiring more people or don't want to do it. I'm getting tired of 10-12 hour days and I know many others are as well. Are they trying to get us to quit?

Career track? At BNYM!?!? Doubtful... Most people longing these long hours had plateaued years, of not a decade ago. They work extra hours to keep their meaningless title as they fear "starting over" - yet they'd probably make more money at another company despite being "levels" below. Don't become part of the problem.

We are doing something about staffing. We are doing our best to drive U.S. attrition and rehiring in India and Poland. On the bright side it is a great time for a job search with the great resignation of the hated boomers.

The company intentionally makes you feel stuck and that you can't do any better by working you to the bone. I know from experience.

a big problem is with HR recruiting which is a mess right now. they are painfully slow and make promises they cannot keep to hiring managers. and that's just US recruiting, dont get me started on India HR....

That’s just how it is when you’re exempt from OT and have a career track. That’s true of all banks.

If you and your team can barely keep up with work, why should management hire more people? In their perspective, your manager is able to deliver results on time and with a lower budget.

When you are grinding 60 hour weeks, you are just working extra for free and asking your manager to take on more work because they think this is your expected capacity.
