Very bad experiences at the bank where I previously worked taught me not to accept any extra work since then. Those who do a lot of extra work here, how much is it worth it?

@xcy+1glj7hAU - EXACTLY!!!! Unfortunately, same here. Learned too late. I should've worked "normal" hours on weekdays only and taken lunch every day.
get past the 60-90 day review period then start doing a really bad job. your boss will be too afraid to do anything about it, doubly so if you are a D&I. Their only recourse is to manage you out which usually means talking you up to their fellow mangers so they'll take you and you'll end up getting a promotion. Any worker bee that show they do a good job and willingly takes on more work will get buried career wise because they won't want to lose you.
All you'll be told is how much you're appreciated and then some new person who doesn't do sht but kiss a bunch of as will get promoted. Save yourself.

That’s definitely my one regret (I’m not with the bank anymore). If I could do it all over again, I wouldn’t have gone above and beyond to put in the extra effort. I was not rewarded or recognized in any way. Looking back, I still would have worked VERY hard - but only at the things I was specifically asked to do or that I was responsible for. If I could go back in time, there is no way I would have OFFERED to take on extra work. Shame on me for thinking that it would have advanced my career. As they say… if you want to move UP you have to move OUT.
