Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

My manager always says that I can take on more works since my workload is light. Why I can't finish the works in time everyday?

Am I becoming the dumpster desk since staffs are gone?

My manager pushed off a bunch of tasks on me all while I was covering for a co worker for 2 weeks. I put in 12 hours OT while covering for this co-worker, only to have it thrown in my face that I missed processing 2 items by a deadline so they were about an hour ‘late’. I let him have it. Told him he should be glad that’s all that was late since he wouldn’t get any other help for me when I told him I was falling behind and he just said - do your best. Apparently my best wasn’t good enough and the OT wasn’t enough. I told him that I will no longer be working OT and it was a slap in the face that I would be ‘spoke to’ about it after all the stuff I did process. His response was nothing. No acknowledgement of what I said.

Be sure to allow time for trainings and other verbing of nouns as led by the illiteracy of Mgmt & HR.

Get to works then go homes. Staffs will be there tomorrow. Maybe ask for one small help to finish the needful.

@1hgd Nope, it would be with pay. If a worker was hired with the expectation they were responsible for X-number of tasks in Y-time...and then that was changed by increasing the volume, complexity, or time involved for their job, if they are terminated for not being able to keep up with the new demands that totally falls within a valid UE claim.

You raise some fascinating philosophical questions. I have to assume that you graduated from Berkeley in 1969.

By “taking on more works” is your manager acknowledging your talent in leading multiple high level strategic initiatives Pre simply axeing you to key your transactions faster? If you can take on more works as your workload is light can you distribute them among your direct reports? If you are becoming the dumpster desk since staffs are gone how many staffs report to you and how many employees on average are in each of your staffs? You may well be moving to Sr Mgt if you come through.

Those 6 months will be without pay if you’re fired.

You are expected to DO MORE FOR LESS. My advice is to do less for more. Make them fire you. You'll get 6 months to look for a better job. Apply it.

Just do the needfuls and get the works done.

Same with me except my manager didn’t say my workload was light, it was just dumped on me. No promotion, no raise, NOTHING!
I have recently applied for positions outside and hope something comes through soon.
