Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Three reorganizations in as many years

Nobody can convince me that one department needs to go through three different reorganizations in as many years. Each of them served only to cut some people and shift some positions around. That's it. Nothing else was achieved. Why is this necessary? What's the point of it? Just call it layoffs and move on.

And self promote... I've seen tons and TONS of promotions for the same people while others get nothing.

When the bank does a reorganization they give employees the “ option “ post for another role and they will guide you to that role, you only have 30 days to do that or your other choice is to not be employeeywuth the bank. It’s a win win for the bank. Most of the people that are “ moved” to a new role end up leaving anyway.

I was swept up in a major reorg once. It worked out pretty well. Now I have experience that I couldn’t have posted into at that time. It’s was a complete 360 from what I was doing before. I think there were maybe 400 of us who got shifted. I don’t think any of us have regrets.

They kinda have to “reorg” considering how many people have left the bank and how many leaders are struggling to fill roles.

Once per year? In our group, it's more like 3 per year, just moving reporting lines around to make certain favorites feel like they have more power ("span of control".) Alas, no layoffs though. (I'd try to be first in line!!)

Reorgs are covers for layoffs, yes. New middle managers want to make a mark, so they tend to do a re-org just to make it look like they are a superstar tough guy, even if it is entirely unproductive. It's a way to puff up their ego and appear relevant. They have little to no concern for the operational impact on their decision-making because they have typically never worked at the ground level to understand the impact. Went through same every couple years. It's a circus run by clowns.

The point of it, as you already pointed out, is to cut some people. (Cutting $$$ which is the real goal of course) Reorganizations are often needed to accomplish this without disruptions, period. Sometimes you may not agree, not being in management, but these things are discussed at length and then acted upon.
