I think that making it a right will enable more people to do it, and reduce traffic and contribute to cleaning up the environment and fight climate change. Companies always say they are fighting back against climate change, by planting trees, adding solar panels, and reducing heat and A/C in their buildings. These actions help, but reducing the amount of people driving back and forth to work for no reason would help enormously while the other actions are but small contributions.
They say the best leadership is by example, and the Netherlands is setting that example.
I keep hearing how climate change is an emergency, yet our leaders are not taking any significant actions like this.
It’s a new world post-pandemic, so many worked from home for 2 years or more, and we all learned to live with it. There were reports of how the air and smog started to clear when we all stopped driving. We made progress, why go backwards again now?
In addition, so many who went back to those open air cube farms got covid despite the vaccines and boosters and masks. Everytime another outbreak happens among our employees, it drives up health care costs. We’ve seen too much of that in San Francisco. Clustering groups indoors spreads the virus. CPG said how their air filtration is so great, yet it keeps happening in our buildings.
Let’s work from home, close those buildings and then save a lot more on HVAC, and building costs, reduce health care costs and all the commuting back and forth for no reason.
Telling everyone to drive in to get on the phone or zoom call proves how very little our leaders care about social goals.
