I intend to quit a job because no matter how hard I tried I was always denied a promotion. How many of you have given up trying to get promoted?

I too have given up .. top performer means nothing without the right “buddies” changing your name
Make sure you formally apply and can negotiate your salary in the new role. Inner-department “promotions” are a joke. 5% mid-year raise with no end of year raise, more responsibility and headache.
I would leave. After doing manager work for 10 years and not getting a manager job I left. The best part is I'm now a manager some place else and make more money than managers at Merrill. They don't care about how hard you work. Go somewhere else where you can be valued by work rather than the azz you kiss.
If the hiring manager is located in a main site like Charlotte, they will promote one of their buddies at the site, no matter how unqualified they are and ignore all other applicants.
As others have noted, better be friends with someone higher if you wanna get promoted.
Promotions here at BOA are a fuhking joke. I have seen buffoons get promoted. I have seen mutherfockers turn down promotions. I have seen mutherfockers lied to about getting promoted. I have seen people get promoted and quit . The only people not being promoted are the hardworking and smart people. BAC stands for backward azz company.
Yep it's definitely a friendship circle right now when it comes to promotions.
Unless you are friends and family or they need to add to the diversity percentag for that area. Don’t bother.
