Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

More information is often better for everyone

Someone made an excellent point that there is generally not much reason for BNY Mellon to keep some things secret. This is exactly what is happening here, things that should not be hidden from employees at all become top secrets. This is certainly not a culture of openness and free-flowing information, and it makes many very anxious and distracted. Such secrecy certainly doesn't contribute to a productive culture. The question is: why doesn't BNY Mellon embrace more transparency?

I can see that people here are more interested in whining “woe is me” even as they busy themselves burrowing deeper into their holes to escape work and to avoid their managers. We clearly need more offshore workers and less entitled rich kids with chips on their shoulders. What did they think was involved in going to work?

Sounds like @7rlk+1hyXlZaK has too much time on his hands if he has time to crawl the endless of abyss MySource is to find and read blogs from Sr. Leadership. Don’t get me wrong, I wish I had time to do this. Understaffed and overworked.

There’s a ton of useful information on My Source and some Senior Managers actually blog. The town halls provide excellent information. If you have an interest in leadership’s thinking it’s all out there for you. But nobody is going to spoon feed it to you. You need to be engaged enough to look for it. Give it a shot, you’ll see, and if you’re engaged you’re likely to get a mentor and move up rapidly. Nothing changes until you do.

@pxy, ummm, things that matter to employees? Nobody's asking for top secret info but for some reason every level of management thinks like you do. I think it makes them feel important.
The biggest issue is the TOTAL lack of information about mass firings. People tend to fear change but they fear the unknown even more. There is absolutely NO legitimate reason to keep their plans secret and it's actually cruel and unethical.

More transparency on what? Financial reports, M&As, headcount increase/reduction, new or lost clients?

This is a public large company operating in a highly regulated environment like other banks. I have worked for other banks in the last 20 years and in my experience some information is only shared as needed, and with certain parties.
