Rumors of upcoming layoffs

I sincerely hope that the rumor that there will be layoffs in a few days is false!?

Wish you all would have been here for the massive layoffs from 2,000 through 2008. you’d understand what a real layoff is. Trust me, you don’t want to go through anything like that.

You certainly mean August 2018. Go back and check your calendar. It’s been smooth sailing ever since…

Lately been thinking about the reason for the gap in layoffs post Charlie. Of course Todd was a safe caretaker CEO who saved our jobs over COVID, accepted funds not to lay off, yada yada… But in addition to that we need a new employment model as we’ve been unable to reduce costs with technology. An interim caretaker CEO would not change this.

But Robin isn’t another caretaker CEO and we’re finally about to get a new model. It seems that layoffs in all Operations groups coupled with H1B replacements is the only viable solution. I know that many feel that there have been lots of layoffs but the math says job security with under 2% over 4 years.

I’m starting to think that this time the rumor might finally be real.

We come in and work our tails off every day. We don’t slack off and our work gets recognized. None of us are worried about layoffs… we’re too productive.

Unless you enjoy your paranoia you shouldn’t read this board. The bank has been a rock of job stability over the last 4 years of very troubled times. You will never see job security like this again in your life.

We are down less than 1% of our headcount since Charlie left. If those are hard times may we enjoy them forever.

I wonder if this rumor will ever actually materialize. This year’s April Fools, August, and now September rumors have all hit a fever pitch with no layoffs. The longer removed that we are from the last significant layoff, over 4 years ago in August 2018, over 4 years, it seems that people become ever more paranoid. Since that time and with all these intense rumors. We’ve enjoyed nonstop job security except for termination with cause.

I’m hoping for it and only wish that there was a way to volunteer.

I wish the best of luck to all those effected by this or any RIF. Remember while people discuss this in a semi-cavalier basis on this board, real people and real families are put in very stressful positions. Maybe it’s their own making and maybe it’s not. Either way, it’s a life event no one wants. Be kind and be respectful as I know you all will be

We got an interesting email today from a manager...

X-X is no longer an employee as of today. Don't discuss or share any non-work details.

I'm WFH, so I don't have the gossip if it was a layoff, firing, quit, etc...

Yeah, if “for cause” means “‘cause we decided headcount needs to be reduced on this team”. Give me a break.

There have been a few with cause and Todd graciously extended packages.

There really hasn’t been significant layoffs since Scharf August 2018. Todd’s era was characterized by job security. It was a good thing… peace and quiet when society was in turmoil. It’s probably going to end soon unfortunately.

We have targets. It seems like not many when we have 50,000 plus employees. But we had layoffs on August and we will again in September.

My entire group was laid off in August 2021. It will continue.

To the person who said "you will be right someday" do you seriously think there have been no layoffs since 2018? I can guarantee you that since 2018 there have been layoffs. This year alone has seen almost 1000 and the big numbers are just going to hit between now and the end of the year If you don't believe that you are seriously misguided or else extremely lucky that your team has not been affected.

You all have said this this every month since August 2018 and zero layoffs since.

You will be right some day but you have no credibility.

I certainly hope there is a layoff - at least just for me. I'm at the end of my career here and should receive a good separation package.

You have to believe there will be layoffs. Goldman Sachs has announced layoffs; JPMC has mentioned about a dropoff in business - that has to translate into layoffs.

As for BNY - even though there are many areas that are short-staffed - mine is one of them - the upcoming slowdown will hit our company as well as force layoffs.

When the layoff happens, sit at your desk. Slam hands on desk. Talk loudly. Talk about g-n ownership. Relax. Make sure you look angry. Don’t have any free pizza. Refuse to leave, talk about lawsuits
