Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Good Luck this week

People say there will be no layoffs, but there will be just as there was in August. This is a known week. It may not seem like much across a firm of our size, but they will happen.

I hope you get what you have wanted, whether that be continued employment or a severance package to help bridge the gap to your next role.

We need Todd now more than ever. The wild eyed Chicken Littles screaming “LAYOFFS ARE COMING LAYOFFS ARE COMING” are actually scaring people. Perhaps Robin could call in Todd as a trusted leader and known friend to all to help calm and boost the morale.

It seems that the longer the good times roll, the higher the paranoia level increases. I’ve never seen anything like this. I’m personally hoping for a package and am kind of ticked off that I’m not getting displaced. If they’ve stopped laying off us old guys then they’re definitely not laying off at all.

What is the mentality that drives people here to downvote good news? I understand trying to slack to be displaced but as humans can we not celebrate our job security?

Every week and every month are “known” weeks and months but there has not been significant layoffs for over 4 1/4 years. 1% up and down fluctuations indicate hires, displacements, career hopping and retirements. All of it utterly normal.

Look at the 2000 to 2010 era, the horrible 8 years from the post Y2K crash to the toxic CMO assets era and he post merger destruction of Pittsburgh. In those 10 years we displaced over 10% of the employees each and every year. Lots of it that was post merger related.

The point is that we are living in an utterly normal era with utterly normal job security.

Relax now and enjoy the good times. When they’re over it will be obvious. For anybody who is really worried it is a great time to initiate a job search. You’re virtually guaranteed to get a nice pay boost and a better work environment.

Very small is regular normalcy. We call it good times.

In my 34 years here I’ve never experienced such a long low layoff period. It’s really been amazing and relaxing.

…and… drumroll… once again there were no significant layoffs in September

Some people are sure having a really fun time trying to scare everybody.

Why does Todd’s nephew insist on continuously littering every thread with boot licking posts and denying the layoffs occurring?

Despite the rumors the era of job security appears to be intact. The Chicken Littles who are screaming that the sky is falling seem to be wrong every month, over 4 years since a major layoff.

To the August comment below, Wake Up. We had layoffs in August 2022. Across a large firm like ours, it seemed small but it did happen.

I received notification this morning I was laid off. It was a fantastic year and a half. Here’s to the rest of my career at a bank that cares about me! Good riddance!

August was 4 years ago. August of this year was non eventful. Let’s see if September rumors pan out.

Sorry to hear this. Hopefully you got A decent severance and find something much better than this dump. What line of business?
