Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Get rid of summer intern program

Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to have ambitious kids in the place willing to help, but it’s difficult to justify their existence when they are just given busy work in rough financial times while the company can post on LinkedIn how amazing they are. I have a feeling these interns aren’t getting exposed to the ugliness that the exco really push but it doesn’t matter when most of these interns won’t even become employees after college anyway. I assume we are only using interns because it’s a good marketing ploy to look better on LinkedIn, but since we just had a major layoff the same week the interns finished, it’s an awful look.

Sorry, haven’t been significant layoffs since Charlie’s August 2018 massacre. This is a golden opportunity to use attrition to transform without pain.

Let’s continue to allow attrition to take place as we move Operations gradually to offshore teams with onshore H1B leads. Rotate offshore with onshore H1B stints so all on the teams meet, work together and bond. Also Poland and other advanced countries.

This is an achievable and sustainable way to lower our costs and it doesn’t require more failed technology imitative.

Because there was no major layoff. August 2018 was the last major layoff.

Stop spamming this board with your nonsense. You must have been hired by BNYM to combat the ultra bad morale on these boards and in the bank. No one believes you... There was no act of kindness by the bank for anyone that gave cause to be fired.

A significant layoff would be beyond your aisle. Nothing significant in 2021, a year in which we did not layoff. You may be thinking of a non performing individual who was fortunate to get a package rather than termination with cause. There was a lot of that as a kindness during the pandemic.

Um, there was a significant layoff done in Jan 2021.

“If there was a major layoff, then why aren't there more posts from people who were laid off?”

Excellent observation.

As I’m sure that you realize, we haven’t had a major layoff in well over 4 years. We do see frantic posts every now and then when a team loses 1 or 2 and the sky is falling, even as we’re adding 4 on another team.

If we ever do have another large layoff we’ll realize it right away, but that hasn’t happened here for 4 1/2 years with Scharf’s mid 2018 layoff… 4 1/2 years ago.

Haven’t had a significant layoff since Charlie left. There’s lots to complain about but layoffs certainly aren’t one of them. Hard to believe how stable it’s been to work here in difficult times.

I think you all mean the Emerging Leaders Program. But yes, most don’t stay more than a few years. Some find good roles within the company, but many do all the grunt work that is related to more prestigious jobs that are client-facing but are given any work that isn’t grunt work.

The super intern program, are you referring to the OCAP? There was a good amount of members in 2019 to stay for a few years, but since then, they stick around for a year and then leave...

Whatever happened to the super intern program? They started it maybe four years ago, attracting some really top-tier talent who we’re supposed to have futures as leaders of the company.

I wasn’t aware of any of them returning.

I know of at least 5 people laid off this week and some were very visible. If you don’t know about it, it’s not because it didn’t happen. It’s because you aren’t plugged in.
