Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

I still love my job here

Reading some of these posts here, one could say that morale is so low that no one cares to keep their job here anymore. The environment is very stressful, but it's hard to find a job anywhere that isn't stressful. I'm not here to defend BNY Mellon. My question is not meant to provoke but I'm wondering how many of you still love your job here despite everything?

Worst Job I ever had. My manager was an alcoholic. The few co-workers I had at my location were totally unfriendly. The goal of all the higher management was to reduce staff. Oh, but the lunchroom bagels were excellent.

Like the projects, hate the technology. Like my direct manager, don't have much confidence in executive leadership. Liked my salary three years ago, don't like the mediocre raises and bonuses in an inflationary environment since. Like my job, don't like that my job keeps expanding due to staffing issues and increased demands from execs and regulators.

I enjoy the work and the people I work with, but management is very inept and you waste hours of your week trying to fulfill their ad hoc requests, which tend to be very manual. Morale IS low across the board but despite recent layoffs and people being understaffed, it creates a stresssful environment that you don’t want to stay in for a while. No one is usually asking me to stay past 5, but the volume of work to complete is so high it’s basically implied every night.

I still love my job here, because I have to pay rent. If I don't have to pay rent, I will hate my job here. Do you understand?

Sponsor H1B will love BNY. There is no one as qualified such as us who traveled across the globe just to work for BNY and motherland.

My job is challenging and exciting. I enjoy working and achieving results. I really feel sorry for clockwatchers who can’t wait until 5:00. The day must seem like eons. I can’t believe that everyone doesn’t have an intrinsic need to accomplish things.

One can love their job, but feel less than love for how the place is managed. I mostly love the work I get to do. I dislike stack ranking. I love most of the people I work directly with. I dislike laying off folks to meet the quota. I love what remains of our collegial environment. I dislike hearing "Folks that remain in the same role year over year are complacent. We cannot all be TG or EP. There is one TG, a dozen Exco members. Only so far that one can go. I love helping others be successful, I hate having to let one of those folks go because they are unable to adapt to the new norm/raising the bar without raising the pay, etc. I love being in charge of things and improving processes, I hate being beat up and belittled in meetings by the new folks, the ones that will be gone in 2 years or less. I love that I am in my dream job, one that my parents could only dream of. I hate that job being belittled constantly.

Does that help any?

I love my job here. I get to work with clients and bring in new business for the bank, I’m well compensated, my work is challenging, and the bank has afforded me the opportunity to travel the world and meet new people and attend amazing events on behalf of the firm. I also understand my role is very different than most others at the bank. I was once in operations and I didn’t like my job nearly as much. I try to help whenever possible here.
