Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Military spouse MyWork?!

I’ve been with the bank for just over ten years now. My husband was recently given orders to PCS to another state, nowhere near a bank office. What are the odds they’ll move me to MyWork without much hassle? I’m already working from home with a medical exception for at least another 12 months so IMO it shouldn’t be that big of a deal.

I agree that MyWotk is still around and I know someone who recently was in the same situation as you and GIS let them move out of area to work remotely.

If someone has a condition that requires an accommodation (by law, not company policy), then from the company's perspective WFH is typically the simplest way to accomplish it. Rather than provide a driver, a ramp, etc. etc., let the employee stay at home, where they've already got all that stuff.

They are actually hiring people and letting them WFH…

My entire team is MyWork. Don't believe people who tell you it's gone. They eliminated it for people within driving distance of hubs and offices years ago when they decided that forced attrition was more important than the original reasons for the program (environmental protection, real estate savings, associate sat, etc cetera). For those not within diving distance or with other accommodations, it's still in place. If you have a good enough reason, it's available.

Several folks on our team are still MyWork, so not sure why people think it doesn’t exist… theres still info on flagscape about it, too. They’re true mywork.. not just working from home.

MyEork as a corporate program was officially sunset 3-4 years ago. That said, I would not be surprised if private 1:1 arrangements still exist as an Exception.

Just keep renewing your Medical Accommodation.

MyWork still exists for rare exceptions and it is up to your MD/DM to give that approval. If you have a good enough reason, they can grant it. However, every time they do grant it, it is a ding on their own performance, so they not only have no incentive to grant it, they have an incentive not to. That being said, you have a valid circumstance. If they say you are SOL, take that as a good sign you belong elsewhere anyway. Leave and don't look back.

While you are on a medical work from home accommodation it shouldn't make a difference, but if/when that accommodation ends you will be required to return to the office if a further exception is not granted.

Best thing is to have a conversation with your manager.

Apply for it. The bank still allows it - depending on the circumstances. Yours are valid.

Advocate for yourself and campaign for others to do the same. This is exactly a circumstance that makes sense.

MyWork was ceased as a program about a year before Covid.

No longer exists.

If you are valued, you "may" be able to get an accommodation from your manager and HR.

If your spouse's assignment is temporary, your odds improved greatly. If your spouse's move is permanent, then you will likely be encourage to seek employment elsewhere.

Three examples:
Colleague 1: was allowed to work from a Caribbean island (!) for something like 12-24 months due to his wife's assignment as a medical professional. But they knew going in that it was just a temporary assignment for her and they would return to CLT, which they did.
Colleagues 2 and 3: Got married (to different people, not each other) and moved out of state just before the MyWork program was shut down. When MyWork ended, they were then told they were SOL. Nearest offices to each (in diff states) were 2 hrs away. They were both given the choice to commute (!) or seek employment elsewhere. They both left and are much happier.

It will really depend on your circumstances, the manager in the role at the time, which group you are in, and HR. If you want to keep your current job, get your manager (and even better, his/her manager) to campaign HARD with HR to keep you. Good luck!!
