Ways of trying to get rid of employees without laying them off

Apart from the fact that I have much more work to do than ever, this happens too: the manager tells me at the last minute that the priority is to do something. The deadline is of course the shortest possible. After that, it turns out that this wasn't a priority, nor is it very relevant at all. Isn't this just another way of creating pressure on the employee to leave without severance pay? I'm interested if this ever happened to you or if there were any other ways they tried to motivate you to leave on your own.

just left after being there many many years. Same happened to me. Passive aggressive manager also who caused severe stress on employees. Has a small team of 4-5 people. 6 people have left this team in the last 2 years because of this manager. Does HR see it, or anyone? Sad this is allowed.

I think it’s more about incompetence than about some devious plan.

Too many people running processes they do not understand. They try and talk their way thru it as much as they can until nothing gets resolved, hence the fire drill for the person that DOES know what’s going on. See it all the time.

I just laugh at the work and pressure they try an unload on me. It is so obvious, especially when you have been here for a number of years. This company is azz backwards like I said before. This company is run by a bunch of buffoons. They don't know their azz from a ho-e in the wall.

Yes, this happen to me because of so many urgent unscheduled firedrills due immediately/tomorrow. This went on for a few months. I was burnt out and stressed out. Then I pushed back implying (read between the line)… does mgmt suck that much with no control of workflows and forecasting/planning as everything request is so adhoc with the outcome of not using the work delivered plus a few other points. This was done in the most polite language possible, but my point got across. Now they don’t dump on me a much, but unfortunately, they dump on someone else. I could go on, but so many passive aggressive strategies to make us quit. Bank is terrible to condone the behavior.
