Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Unrealistic deadlines

Unrealistic deadlines are a recipe for a disaster. It's really not clear to me whether our superiors don't understand that deadlines are unrealistic or refuse to understand it!? I tried to communicate the situation clearly and to explain that it would be very difficult to meet the deadline, but I regretted it. They just don't care.

It’s 2022 and we run on spreadsheets via email. We can do better.

The ad-hoc report requests at this firm are beyond out of control. Another sign of lack of strategy and prioritization, starting at the highest management ranks.

The worst ones are when EC-1 or EC-2 demand you drop everything because they need a report so you have to put on real client deliverables on hold. Usually these requests involve data mining and comparing against a flaw system. For a firm that tries to be data-driven, we do a horrible job with it.
