Thread regarding Mutual of America Life layoffs

Old Boys Club

Many of us are still amazed that the Chief Sales Officer kept his job and kept getting promoted after this lawsuit. At any other corporation, that person would have been long gone:

For those of you who are aroud when this happened, what do you recall about it or the reaction when this first went public ?

There must be truth in these posts. Some don't like the truth being exposed and when the truth comes out, they make threats. Gaslighting at its finest. Most likely from either HR or a high level current or former executive who is trying to cover it all up. The truth is already out there on BBB, with NYDFS, with the Regulators, and in the court filings. No need to resort to threats. The truth will set you free.

I'm pretty sure the last thing anyone at Mutual of America wants if for the truth to come out in a courtroom. Hence the NDAs. Discovery would be amazing.

Yes. This is a message board about layoffs.

You've lost hundreds of millions of dollars and cost hundreds of employees their livelihoods. Incompetent and unethical leadership - especially at the EFVP & RVP level - is driving this company towards insolvency, and at this point I expect that our pension will soon be worthless.

Shame on you for creating the conditions that led to the mass firing (right before Christmas too!) of many good people. I honestly don't know how you can look at yourselves in the mirror at the end of the day.

@layoff.com why are you allowing gossip, rumors and defamation of people’s character to continue to be said on here? It’s comical and disgusting the rumors people are spreading not to mention nothing is actually anonymous on these sites. It takes one person to take these to court and all of the who is saying what about who will be exposed.
So to the so called know it alls posting. Actually fact find and know the truth before posting your rumors or gossip. Some of you have to be very old to remember such stuff and you are an adult. Act like one. #layoff.com do better at scrubbing your site. This is supposed to be for layoff information.

What caused Severin to be let go in the Summer of 2024 ? Who can provide insight about what went down ?

It was not a frivolous lawsuit and she walked away with a large settlement. This is only one of the lawsuits brought against someone at MOA, that was paid quietly. Severin formed his own company. I wonder if any Mutual people will be joining him.

It was most likely settled for a sum of money. It did happen and the company tried to cover it up to protect this individual from himself. At some point, it's financially beneficial to both sides to settle it rather than continue incurring the cost of litigation.

Probably settled for a $1M or less. If anyone can get the lawsuit details from 2016, please post the juicy allegations

Can you provide details of the lawsuit, looks like you need a subscription to access Trellis Law documents. Did the Company settle more that one suit involving the Chief Sales Officer?

Perhaps there was a settlement. We will never know but historically no one believes the woman. However, let’s hope Mutual can solve its problems to save the hard-working employees that are still there. My wish for the New Year.

Looks like case was dismissed...by a judge....one can assume that was because it was a frivolous lawsuit with no merit....
