two months notice peirod

anybody can share how to shorten the two month notice period? It is just insane. Every other companies I worked for only require two weeks, but BNY requires two months for my level.

You agreed to this when you signed that level document. Read it, it tells you exactly what bny can do to you if they want to, including for poor performance during the notice period. If you never agreed and signed that document then you have nothing to worry about. I was a manager and quit last year and was held to my level agreement which required 30 days notice. What is troubling is that at your level you seem to not know what you did or didn't commit to and the terms.

Once I provide notice, I am doing very little. My team and manager should have listed to me years ago. It’s not my fault anymore.

If the concern is losing bonus because you need to start new job sooner than the notice period, then your new employer should offset the bonus during comp negotiations. Alternatively, if you just don't want to do much work during that time, then simply don't. You should be transitioning out of the role anyway, and NOT taking on new work - no?

Only at BNYM is an outgoing employee somehow expected to work until 10PM until their last day...and (WORSE) brainwashed /bullied into actually doing the work. SMH....

The best option would be to provide notice and hope they ask you to leave. You will still be paid.

The OP may not be an M. Lower grade level folks in IM also have to provide 60 days. Of course those lower grade level folks are likely paid like an IB business level M employee.

Those minimums don’t apply to the EC. I saw more than one leave with only a couple weeks’ notice.

Given you are required to give 2 months, I assume you're a level M or above (I'm L and I have to give 1 month notice, that sucks!)

If that's the case, you may be able to negotiate a shorter transition of your work to your team and appoint a potential successor.

Or just say fu** it and leave, assuming you won't' need to meet anyone from BNYM again - the IT world in finance is a small world.

Btw, other banks have a 1 month notice minimum for VP level and above now (JPM is one of them).

I have heard you can request in writing for that period to be shortened, but it may not be granted.

Most large banks have similar terms, so it may be less of an obstacle than you are thinking.

It’s funny, they want people to leave so they don’t have to give a package but when someone finally has a chance, they make it unusually difficult

Agree with just walk away... Unless they are withholding bonus, they can't negatively affect you. HR is only allowed to provide employment status and dates to other companies that may call for reference. If you don't care about the teams or people that may struggle if you just up and leave, nothing to stop you. I ve seen several senior managers just peace out with no notice, leaving a wake of chaos and other people leaving shortly after.
