Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Ratings

I remember seeing somewhere on this site but can’t find it… Can somebody who actually knows what the 1 through 5 rating scale is for employees?

Groups 6& 7 are gone, but slower than originally planned as someone actually need to do the work. 5s will get a PIP. If you haven't received it yet, it's because your manager hasn't been told yet whether you are supposed to pass or fail. Yes, if they're getting rid of you, you are set up to fail so they don't have to give you severance.

You can view your ratings in the HR system. If you weren't meet, you will get on a dev plan

Groups 5-7 are automatically put on a development plan. There’s nothing anyone can do about it as it’s systematic through Oracle. It is either a 30 or 60 day plan. If someone doesn’t accomplish what they should within those 30-60 days they are out. With nothing. Terminated for cause (poor performance).

Thanks for the information

& what exactly is this “ 30 days” stuff I keep hearing rumor about

Does that mean they get 30 days regular pay, They’re done & locked out of their computer and then they get their severance or is that 30 days instead of their severance?

Thanks again and sorry for the questions but I want to know what I’m dealing with at this place even though I had very good ratings
you never know what they’re gonna try to pull and I’d rather be prepared

BNY uses a 7 point scale. With exceed, meet, partial meet, does not meet in 3 categories.

You want to be in group 4 or better. Group 4 is meet in all 3 categories. Anything lower (5-7) is technically a fail.

The groupings are 1-7, based on a matrix.

1 is exceeds / exceeds through 5, which is meets / partially meets.

1-5 at each category. For example: how well you adjust to change most people are at 3. How is your email communication skills 3. Each managers have different categories based on their teams. Mines are phone skills, email communication, ability to follow procedures, client interaction and abilities to adapt to change.
