Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

How can BNY be allowed to force rank good employees and lable them low performers to avoid severance. Not ethical, such fu--ing bullsh-t.

Also, including and adding folks to the list that have met performance but at the bottom of that category.

What a joke this is, and any of the minion managers that just agree and don't fight back, your day will come too.

How has nobody brought /won a lawsuit vs this company yet? The OP’s original post just happened to a person in my department. Terminated a few months after getting a new manager. Someone has to take a stand.

You all need to wake up. Sr mgmt gave a head count for reduction. If you were below expectations or close to retirement, guess who they are cutting to get to that reduction number. Your direct mgr doesn't always have a say. We also get told we cannot hive more than a certain number of exceeds. Again complete bullsh-t but sr mgmt is doing this and it’s absolutely unfair. My mgr did it to me and then acted like he didnt know why my results based goals were meets cause per him “ oh that should have been exceeds too. Oh well”! Thats the statement when he knew he intentionally sc--wed my rating over . Mass report this place to the news, your employment agencies. Anybody you can to be put eyes on what theyre doing or it will never stop

higher level managers can override the direct managers rating. It happened to me by someone that has never even met me, several levels above me.

So you don’t believe that your manager can rate you correctly.

Dude, your manager IS the only person who can rate you because your manager sets your goals and assignments.

You’re simply rationalizing your own performance issues. That is the opposite of learning how to compete. Course correct soon or you’re doomed for failure.

Life is about competition and working well together.

The sooner you understand this the better off you are. Boomers learned this as teenagers and learned how to create their own jobs.

Read up on the boomer work ethic and you’ll understand how good you have it.

And it seems that firing due to (alleged) non-performance is spreading around companies as a way to save money:

Microsoft institutes “zero severance” layoffs in aggressive performance crackdown for employees in 2025

  • Instant termination protocol: Termination letters state employees are “relieved of all duties effective immediately,” with building access and accounts deactivated within hours. Healthcare, dental, and prescription benefits end the same day, leaving affected workers without coverage.
  • Severance elimination: Three confirmed cases received no financial compensation beyond final paycheck proration. A spokesperson stated these cuts target “chronic underperformers,” asserting roles may be backfilled with new hires.
  • Reapplication restrictions: Laid-off workers face permanent employment barriers: future applications will consider “past performance and basis of termination,” per termination notices.

We have dissected this here at ‘the layoff’ ad nauseum. What more can be said? It’s a cheapskate, skin flint place now run by the sc-um of the Earth. You are not even a human being here. You are just a tool that costs them money. And they are now always on the look out for cheaper tools. They are of the belief that even the top all star team of all time even has bottom performers. Never again will hired hands have fine long careers here. It’s always a club now and favors given to companies they share cutthroat plans with….
Bad place + Bad people +Bad environment = Bad for your health.

Minion manager here... Just for everyone's awareness, our Directors & Managing Directors have the ability to override our choices after we submit year-ends. This is what happened in my group...

I'm not defending it, I also think it's atrocious.

This ranking also prevents reemployment with the bank for five years in some instances. With a tough job market and an almost impossible job market for those over 60, they really sc--w you over. Too early for Medicare so increased health insurance, non payment for vacation, no bonus. Leaves a real bad taste in your mouth after a long career with this bank.
