Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Good Friday and Asset Servicing

The Good Friday holiday was taken away from us in the US once Juneteenth was added. A floating holiday was added instead. Why are the offshore teams in India (not sure about Poland) allowed to call it a company holiday and not work while us d-mb d-mbs in the US have to sit at our desks and stare at our computers when our funds are closed and we can’t do anything? Just give us the day off! I just say d-mb d-mbs because we question nothing and let this company constantly abuse us.

@vj+1js284kyy How many times a day do you have to whipe the an-us smell off your lips? Nobody high up cares about you or anyone. You’re trolling by acting like a company bullet point “be client obsessed” until you get outsourced. Keeping clapping like a harbor seal.

Our india teams covering our tasks had to work, they didn't have a day off.
Also if you don't like it then use the floating holiday you were given for it

Reading isn’t your strength is it? Was responding to the statement made by @jw+1js284kyy. Totally aware of all that compliance. Not to mention we use India technology people to our detriment while being led by the nose by an effite British scoundrel. We are USINO. US in name only.

You may think so, but that perspective overlooks the broader reality. We operate according to various government guidelines across many countries, not just India. A quick glance at the Holiday Calendar on Mysource should provide more context to avoid such narrow assumptions.

@hf+1js284kyy lol why would I care about other nation’s holidays? Again this is a US firm, and I work on US accounts. I would understand if I was a living in the US and supporting say Canadian funds or ones in some other country. That’s what happens when folks in another country decide they want to work on US based funds. They don’t get their country’s holidays off. It’s a given. I’m sure they receive other perks otherwise why would they take the job and agree to work US hours? When we first started offshoring our work it was a hurdle during Indian national holidays. We had to cover 1/3 of their work. But as time went on and they laid off more of us and moved more of the work to India this was no longer an option. Somehow Indian staff are always there covering the work on their holidays. My main staff are always there, and I don’t notice anymore nor do I care. It’s what they signed up for. Might be different for teams that don’t have daily responsibilities say financial reporting.

The major hurdle lies in the support structure. Now that India has taken over most, if not all, of the back-office operations, it is the Government of India's national holidays that essentially dictate the workforce's schedule.
For market-based calendars, Good Friday was observed as a holiday, so the teams supporting that line of business had no issues. However, for FED-based calendars, Friday turned into a nightmare. With reduced staff and the same workload, support was practically non-existent. While some of us planned ahead to manage this challenge, others—perhaps to the frustration of management—treated it as an unplanned time off and enjoyed some free time.
In the NY Metro area, it happened to be a beautiful day, perfect for hitting the golf course—if you noticed! When faced with such situations, the question becomes: why resist the opportunity when you can make the most of it? After all, this is a management-induced issue. It appears we may soon find ourselves following the holiday calendar dictated by Delhi. And perhaps this should be welcomed, as India celebrates numerous festivals and holidays honoring different gods—long live secularism.

@ah+1js284kyy Like I said it depends on what aspect of financial services you work in. I’ve always worked either directly for a financial advisor or BNY Asset Servicing. Our books were always closed because nasdaq was closed. The fact that my Pune is able to be off when they are the ones actually doing the work should tell you there’s nothing to do within my dept. We oversee Pune. What’s there to oversee when they aren’t there? It’s just a power trip.

For the person going on about India and ‘being mad at US corporations’. Stop being a dope. India has no advantage over the US at all except that it cheap. But this is at the detriment of workers not the advantage. In the end, AI is coming for us all anyway. India is a dirty, crummy place and yes, I’ve been there. Enjoy your holiday.

Well it's an actual holiday in India. In my entire years of working in financial services, we have never celebrated Good Friday as a day off. I have always had to work on Good Friday no matter what. Don't be mad at India and Indians for getting the day off because it's a recognized holiday. Be mad at the US corporation instead.

Holidays… feh.
The only holidays our management celebrates are mass layoff days and the days when monthly termination & resignation reports come out.

@ab+1js284kyy lol I’m just going to keep my Teams green lol. Just hate that I have to be near my computer even if I’m outside the whole time and can’t go anywhere. This place has a control fetish.

@a1+1js284kyy Oh I guess even though you work for a US firm you don’t understand how US asset servicing works. Banks are open on Good Friday. Always have been. Even though BNY has custody services not all of the firm has followed banking holidays. I work in Asset Servicing. Asset Servicing follows NASDAQ holidays not custody holidays. NASDAQ is closed Good Friday therefore the books I work on are closed. This firm decided to be spiteful and take the holiday from us even though we literally cannot do anything. You work for a US firm. What do you do for other India national holidays that aren’t US holidays too. If you work for a US firm and you took jobs from us you should should be bound by the same holidays.

It's a national holiday in India. if you don't like our US holiday schedule, complain to the government. UK gets Friday and Monday. Poland gets Monday.
