Pennington location closing?

There are rumors that the Pennington office location might be closing. Is this just a rumor, or is it true?

@g48 One has noticed that you repeatedly post the same obnoxious messages than providing real information. Repeating the same "lies" does not make the place to be abandoned. The decision is more financial than you navigating through toilets and looking for fe...s residues

That is a lie. The second floor was empty and was occupied recently by a bio-tech.

Unless they lost funding after RFK Jr take over, I personally know a slew of bio-tech firms got hit and laid off in troves in Boston area, and are shutting down in less than six months - that place is not empty for BNY to bid

That’s interesting, how come the NYC salaries are higher? Don’t we all have the same salary range within our level (K, L etc.)

Do NYC employees get the higher end of their range?

What's the housing market like in Eastern PA near Pennington? If I'm allowed to transfer there, I'll certainly move out of NYC in an instant.

I don’t work in Pennington. However the floor below Mellon is occupied by a firm that is relocating so they will be taking over that floor. By the way most of my teammates from Wilmington and KOP were moved to Pennington. It’s going nowhere. If anything it’s getting more crowded.

True!

Just take a look at the roster at Pennington—almost all of them are employed from NYC/JC with sky-high, city-based salary packages. They live in nearby, highly expensive areas and enjoy a 15–20 minute commute. Beyond their salaries, they save significantly on commuting costs—nearly $6K annually—without even factoring in the two hours of commute time saved each way. That’s essentially a tax-free bonus, translating to a $10K incentive!
HR won’t allow anyone to designate Pennington as their primary location unless they’re hired by Pershing X—see @a3+i’s post.
And, of course, most of them are coffee badgers.

Let me know if you'd like further refinements!

Pennington is closing. The bank had the opportunity to expand the footprint and chose not to do it. Pennington is not a growth site. Senior management is never at that site. The only people there are the ones that moved from Lawrenceville, and some KOP refugees. Others have attempted to move their aims there because they want to avoid the commute to JC or NYC. When they close Pennington, they will force many to JC. This will cause some to leave the company and management will be happy because they are reducing headcount without paying severance. Look for Pennington to close before the end of 2026 if not the end of 2025. Before you ask, BNY will get out of the lease. Remember, BNY does not care about us. Look at the stock price and then look at the raise or bonus you received.

I don't know anyone who worked in KOP but now reports to Pennington. They are either BAH or go to Wilmington. Archer in Berwyn or the Philly Market St location would be a better option for most KOP folks.

Funny—the floor below is now occupied. Makes you wonder if they're constructing a floor above! Just another story to console oneself that the site may not be closing?
How many KOP, Philly, and Wilmington members are actually located in Pennington? Most of those folks seem to be BAH anyway.
Honestly, this feels like a completely made-up piece, in my opinion.

But you are being paid NYC salary - you cannot have the cake and eat it too ! Yes I am serious about my comment. The NYC salary but staying in rural Kansas is what caused folks to retaliate and make them pitch against each other.

There is a reason why NYC, Bay area salaries are sky high. Just offer HR that you are willing to take a pay cut and live in West Trenton / Ewing - not expensive to be frank and Ewing is a good neighborhood - even Pennington or just across the river in PA - and they may bite.

This may get down voted BUT the folks who took a job at these locations do work form lower numbers than NYC elites

The higher ups in my area said if anything they might rent another floor in the building. They’re running out of space there. Plus they’re in the middle of a long lease. Many of the displaced workers from KOP, Philly, and Wilmington have been siphoned off to Pennington because it’s considered “convenient.” That being said I put nothing past senior “management.”

Also, I didn't realize we weren't allowed to say scŗéwed on this site. What a weird word censor.

I had a coworker who lived in Jersey but was forced to come into the NYC office three times a week, and fought tooth and nail to get a spot at Pennington since it was less of a commute. They let him come in occasionally, but eventually told him to stop showing up there. So he quit instead.

I live in NYC buy can't afford to renew my lease, and the nearby areas are just as expensive and have longer commutes. I was going to politely speak with HR and see if I could transfer to Pennington so that I could maybe move to eastern PA, but even that area is super expensive too.

Once again, the middle class gets sc--wed.
