I must firmly and unequivocally reject the proposition presented, without any need to examine its content or merits. There is simply no room for discussion or reflection on its nature, purpose, or potential benefits. Regardless of any arguments in its favor, I deny its validity outright and dismiss it entirely from consideration. No evidence, reasoning, or persuasion could alter this stance, as the matter is closed before it even begins. It is not a question of weighing pros and cons or seeking a deeper understanding; rather, it is a categorical refusal to engage with the idea in any form. The decision to reject stands absolute and unyielding, unaffected by context or circumstance. This is a final and irrevocable denial, with no possibility of reconsideration or exception.

Genuine answer is: how much do you like your manager? They get a score for you doing it. Nothing will change based on your answers, but be advised it is not actually anonymous.

@v7+1jv3gymgm - we don't receive the actual responses "as soon as it's submitted".

While we get the report about NUMBER of Respondents each week, then daily (last week of survey), we only are given the actual responses several MONTHS later.

No idea why, but when the survey ends mid-June, we never receive our Manager Report until late August or even Sept.

One time, I got mine in November!!

@v7+1jv3gymgm - to reassure you -- no NBKs, no person numbers.

But does list each Unique Respondent's:

  • Band
  • City
  • State (if applicable)
  • Country

I'm the only one on our team in my city and state, so they know who I am very easily.

Agree 100% that not completing the survey at all will have more of an impact than providing honest feedback. Also agree that managers can very easily figure out who submitted comments. If your team is 7 or more people, your manager will receive all written comments. If the data organized by location, title or years of service, it’s easy to attach comments to specific people. For several years, I’ve submitted honest, constructive feedback about my manager. The situation has gotten progressively worse for me, not better. While managers can’t openly retaliate against employees who submit feedback they don’t like, they can punish you in many ways, like by rating your performance lower with phony justification, by giving choice assignments to others on your team instead of you and not inviting you to meetings with higher ups. My boss has down all of the above and more. I will not be completing the survey this year.

Just a clarification: Based on comments, it is clear that manager will receive the feedback as soon as it is submitted. Does the manager receive the NBK id also in feedback? Or he\she has to figure out based on the comments!?

Folks, it's just rinse and repeat every year.

I hate how all the leaders start doing travel to the sites and making all of us jump through hoops to come see them talk weeks before the survey rolls out.

Save your travel money and compensate us. Shoot some leaders spend their engagement budget while others do nothing at our site. Leaders need to be consistent across the board and generate the same engagement activities for the whole org… it would probably be better to do nothing at all vs allowing some managers to constantly spend money on their team while ours gets to sit by and watch.

I know of a few managers who are a horror to report to and despised by most. Both consistently scored in the 40 -50 % approval range. They are both still in their roles and have been for many years. The survey is useless for rating managers.

last year's survey was particularly useless. I've been here 14 years, most years my division does share some level of results not the top of house ones, but last year they shared absolutely nothing....and aren't even pretending to have done/changed anything coming out of it. that said, I hear that answering any with the middle answer (whatever it's called, the one that is neither good nor bad) results in that answer getting tossed out so better to pick something on either far end of the spectrum

Managers can try to discriminate, but that will subject them to anti-retaliation laws.

Does it really even matter if they are anonymous? BofA needs change and those who propose solutions should be applauded or leave the bank if unsuccessful.

I had no problem trashing my manager on the ESAT survey. In fact if the opportunity presented itself I’d have written my comments while she watched me.

Is it already time for ESAT? I swear we still talked about last years a couple meetings ago and they were going to share results and changes they made.

They only care about the Response Rate.

Our team was bullied by our manager to complete so she could have 100%, because her manager wanted the 100%.

They then use the Response Rate -- which they cutely call "engagement" -- to brag to media and the board about our level of Employee "Engagement".

The only change you will see is Management paying themselves more because we are compelled to RTO and are so "engaged."

They’re great for creating more mind numbing useless meetings throughout the year, allowing for “managers” to do what they like to do best - listen to their own voice. Otherwise they’re a complete and total waste of time. You would be wise to not bring any attention to yourself on these things. They are NOT anonymous. Your manager will be able to tell who said what. Just answer straight down the middle. No comments. And move on to the next task of the day.

Non-participation sends a better message than rating them low

@a4+1jv3gymgm is correct. While the survey vendor company does not divulge individual respondents (only aggregated data), it is too easy to figure out by cross-checking different cuts of the reports (by level, location, etc) who is who.

That said, I did mimic the speaking pattern of a colleague I hated and said nasty stuff just to mess with him. :-D

While they do read it, they ignore it. An change would be like trying to get the Titanic to make a U-Turn.

Never gonna happen.

Not only are they worthless, they are NOT anonymous. I am speaking from experience.
