Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Left that nightmare six months ago

I've never been happier. I sleep better, lost weight, and actually see my kids now. I didn't realize how much that place was ki-ling me till I got out. Best decision ever. To anyone thinking of leaving - do it. Not a single regret about my decision.

@OP+1jxn5w61d - Left 6 months ago yet you’re still posting on thelayoff lol. Good to see BNY still living rent free in your head 🤣

Hoping to be out soon, I appreciate BNY for showing me there is nothing left to value here.

Having BNY on your resume is now bane, not boon.

@k2 - yes, BNY is in the same league as other pariah banks such as Wells. Even if you yourself did a great job, the job market will discount that experience by about 20%.

I have been bluntly told by recruiter what was I thinking joining BNy even though it was at a level higher.

I truly do think other firms have a negative view of BNY. My resume is solid as I always got responses before my time at BNY. Since my time here, despite being in a more senior position, it’s nothing, nada. Radio silence. BNY is a laughing stock

I left in April and my first real interview coming tomorrow. So please wish me luck!

I agree with @op that I am happier despite the fear of not having a job yet.

I start a new job next week and am excited to have a better culture. The BNY I knew for so long has vanished. I'm sad for those still clinging to it because they're bound to get the axe sooner than later.

BNY is not a real company.

Yes, this place makes one mentally and physically ill. Problem is, if you own a home, have a family, kids in school, you just can’t walk out unless you have a nice emergency fund. Finding a new position is still tough and takes time. But, it will happen. Unfortunately, I am starting to realize other firms have a bias against this place in a way. They look at you and your time here and they think ‘tainted’ or ‘damaged’.

It’s crazy how much this place has toughened me up. My new company is so much better but compared to what I saw at BNY, what people complain about is a joke. Not only is the grass actually green, it’s actually grass on the other side, not weeds!
