Workplace Relationships

What is BNY policy on workplace relationships? Family members and / or romantic.

I've heard as long as the two parties do not share the same home mailing address, they can work in the same department with no issues. I've also heard as long as there is one level of separation between them, meaning not a direct report, the firm doesn't mind.

There is an old saying, ‘you dont schtup where you eat’. And if you engage in relations with someone here, 9 times out of 10 you will come out very sorry. You are giving HR even more reasons to make you disappear on their terms.

I have two family members in BNY but not in my team and not under the same manager. Every year I fill the form with information about that + it is common knowledge on department management level. Nobody care about it.

A person in my department was let go because they were a VP level person and did not let anyone know that their BROTHER worked in the department and under him/her!!!! He was eventually let go, as well.

Thank you for the responses. Basically as long as the two parties involved keep separate address on-file for their employment records, the firm will not investigate.

This is how it appeared to us watching and hearing about this long-standing corporate tryst.

The parties involved did sign-off on shared work.

Ireland in theory relations or spouses cant work in the same team, there is annual certification to be done also.

Reality. People are riding all around them. Wouldn't call them relationships tho.

That’s the least of your worries if you work there. I would encourage anyone to work somewhere else. I had a great career at Mellon, BNY Mellon, BNY but the current state of the place is awful.

Mgr here who dealt with this. They cannot share the same address if they are in the same dept . Once they do it becomes an issue because one has to move depts. if they get married same thing applies but they also have to certify they have a relative that works at the bank as well

I think this is going on a lot . People in areas that are not first line are notorious (wink wink guess which one). These extra curricular amorous activities are forbidden by policy but management has so far turned a blind eye to it in our little group.

I work in an office where, allegedly, a VP hired a romantic partner to work next to them in operations.

The VP in question has 25-years with the firm and also recruited a number of friends / previous co-workers to come on board to this department. The “rumors” are originating from the newer hires that this VP recruited a well-known romantic partner.
