Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Does this sound like a takeover?

All our job reqs went to Pune very recently with no more hiring locally.
We all of a sudden must train brand-new Pune people with zero knowledge (fresh off the streets) to do the work of several veteran subject matter experts? This directive "just came down from above" and we were told several times not to tell anyone :o)
A la "Office Space", we were all told to write out (with screenshots, etc.) all that we do with our specific job functions.
There's more but that is the major points.
Paranoia or are we "dead men walking"? Is there any innocent spin that could be put to all of this?

This is SOP. Disney did it and it became an issue in the courts—people were let go for not training.

The simplest answer is: until you are let go, which is inevitable, take on the workload but do not disclose the process. You won’t be able to clear the queue, which will highlight the problem and may even be used as the reason for you being laid off. Right now it’s survival mode, an existential crisis of just paying the bills.

Make it your manager’s problem to handle training. With recent shuffles and P-M, managers often know less than the actual workhorses.

RV and its Agile methodology team have further complicated things, but that actually works in your favor. Just fill the Jira ticket and send it on without resolution. Do the same in ServiceNow. It’s the good old kicking-the-can approach.

You don’t even have to be deliberate. The confluence and the complex processes we have aren’t easily documentable. Add in the dependence on AI and prompt engineering, and it’s only going to get worse.

You’re not being malicious—you’re just not extending yourself. Even with AI, discovering anything useful here is like finding a needle in a haystack. With Eliza, you have to ask the exact right question, and even then it doesn’t really answer—just loops you back to the same outdated, garbage confluence pages that no one maintains.

Don’t be under the illusion that your job here in the US is secure.

The dirty snake Akash and his buddy Arek are doing a bang up job with WTS as well. Desperately understaffed teams are being expected to do the work of what literally double or even triple a properly staffed office can do. Akash also has his man-child Nick, “The Skunk” up in NY sitting at a cushy desk monitoring his new dashboard while cracking the whip when incidents aren’t assigned within 15 minutes of receipt.

You’re all being set up to fail. Why? They want to outsource you to cheap, no benefits contractors who know nothing about the requirements this job entails. it’s coming.

@eh
—-They don’t want training, they want you to hold their hand. They will message you privately asking you direction every step of the way then take all the credit when miraculously they complete their task without issue——

This absolute truth post should be considered a physical law of nature at BNY. These Indians are helpless and completely unqualified to assume these positions. Do the absolute minimum with them. Let them sink or swim. Do not brea-st feed these very junior rubes.
BNY deserves all it gets for doing this and creating risk where it didn’t need to be.

DO NOT TRAIN THEM. It’s happening on my team as well, and if it weren’t for a few snakes in the grass and the fact that the British lady director hired a useless Indian slug to run the dept they wouldn’t be getting a lick of extra training. They don’t want training, they want you to hold their hand. They will message you privately asking you direction every step of the way then take all the credit when miraculously they complete their task without issue. Regulatory errors will eventually roll in. Between India and the over leveraging of AI it’s going to be a hilarious problem. One I’m hoping to be long gone to see but I will hear about it.

The writing is on the wall, the same happened to my area. It took roughly 6-12 months to let everyone in the US go, one by one. Start looking for something or at least have a backup plan. Good luck.

@ce a plan so dastardly and historically accurate one might think a Brit ran this firm

the idea is to move jobs to India and then lay them off when AI gets approved as then it's just cheaper and you don't have to argue with officials of AI cutting jobs, because the jobs have simply already moved outside the country

A takeover by RV and his cronies....
The haphazard gutting and outsourcing has has severe impacts on the culture domestic and India's... Nobody in EU is even pretending they are cared about anymore...

There is no long term job security at BNY, I don't know anyone in my sphere not already job hunting. The subject matter expertise left the bank years ago... an inexorable shame

This isn't new, sadly. It's been happening for the past few years. It's only a matter of time now.

Yes you are likely on the path to job loss if your job now requires you to document specialized knowledge and share that outside your immediate team. While Pune may benefit in the short term with the FTE the end goal is not to have humans in other parts of the world get paid for the. Rather it is to figure out how to get AI to do your tasks. If you are in a team that verifies data or ensures safe passage of feeds or files between systems you will see this replacement very soon. Everyone should be working on their exit plan regardless of where in the world they are reading this and remember every paycheck is your opportunity to build up that emergency fund. The Bank will figure out how to pay you less or not at all. Remember AI is expensive, executives bonuses are expensive, sc--wing the little guy is cost savings and enhancing shareholder value holder value. And Robin did gift everyone with $500 in shares so you will profit along with his millions in share right? Rising tides lift mega yaughts and pieces of driftwood the same….

Decisions have been taken, your gut feel is correct.
The first one who finds a new job wins; after that, there will be many of you looking for the same jobs at the same time.

Noooooooo. It’s not a take over. No.
It’s a disgusting li--y effete snob who is cheap and doesn’t care about quality. Just remember something - YOU HIRE CHEAP, YOU GET CHEAP
And
Robin is going for the GIGI method-
GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT.
G-d da-mn this company .. may it fail and be destroyed.

This happened to us quite a few years ago. You probably have 6-12 mos before layoffs start. They will want you to train them and check their work for a period of time. They will then proceed to layoff the lowest staff levels in the team. The supervisors and managers will continue to provide oversight. Eventually sups will be let go too. And at some point all but a few will be left. Pune managers will only watch the team and make sure the team is working. They will not help train.

Definitely sounds like your department is heading to the big I-N-D-I-A. I cannot even fathom an innocent reason for this. Be prepared.
