Ford EV plants layoffs.

It's about time. Loosing $45,000 for every EV Ford produced is a losing game.

Someone who thinks ICE will be obsolete in the near future has their head in the sand. Affordability and convenience are not BEV strong points right now or in the next 10 years. BYD is not dumping their made with slave labor BEVs here ever.

I hear marketing was telling Billy and Fartley that customers were not ready for EVs. But they charged ahead anyway thinking big brother would force people to buy them. Toyota is the only OEM to tell big brother to “&!?! $&:!
We know what our customers want.”

Still can’t figure out why Farley is still in charge unless it was Billy’s idea to sink the ship

Model E based plants are the two Blueoval SK cell manufacturing plants in TN and KY, and the Blueoval battery plant in MI.

Believe what you want, but EVs are here to stay. Like any new technology, it will be a growth curve, and will never get to 100% without a significant technology improvement. But those that are rabbidly anti-EV just have their head in the sand.

@ac they’ve been going into EVs because they know if they don’t it’s a death sentence for the company. At this point it may still be honestly because it’s only so long that they can hold off Chinese EVs. President Xi made it his mission for China to be the world supplier of industries the US controls like auto and aircraft. The CCP is heavily subsidizing things that makes trade unfair. World businesses were d-mb enough to expose all of their trade secrets in their greedy pursuit of profit in China. That is what happens when you have leadership that don’t know how to deal with a different type of culture/government. Unless you’re ok handing your company over then nobody should be doing business in China because they’re master mimics that don’t acknowledge IP rights. They’ll take what every company does best and put it into one product. That’s why Xiaomi has an EV that has the body of a Porsche.

Ford needs to back to the basic and try to produce good quality and less expensive vehicles people can buy. If not, then join venture with BYD, learn from them, and Ford may survive.

@ax
You are partial correct. Ford has 3 EV assembly plants, 1 powertrain plant, and buy batteries from suppliers. Ford will sell close to 50,000 EVs this year. So if you put the numbers together with a loss of $4.5 billion per year on Model E. Ford lose $90,000 for each EV they sold.

Saying that Ford loses $45k per EV is a bit misleading. That is a lazy attempt to paint the entire EV business cost on a per vehicle basis. Building 3 or more new plants, the first of which just started production, drops a massive cost on the org that skews the numbers. I'm sure they do still lose money on each EV, but it is likely a few thousand each, not the overinflated $45k number.

Many of the ICE vehicles would show massive losses too if they had to build new plants.

I think this is an old article. Mentions Lawler as CFO and he's not any longer. Who know, but message is clear. Just say No to EVs.

They're just starting to realize the market is small for EV's? All this knee je-k 'all in' mentality is just 1 of the many horrible decisions made by this management team. They should all be replaced, immediately. DF needs to be perp walked out by security.
