Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

it's not layoffs that bug me the most

It's knowing that so many of us who are hard workers are stressing because we know there's a good chance we'll be given our walking papers today, while all the slackers whose only quality is knowing how to kiss the right butts are having a regular day, no different than any other. They know they have nothing to worry about. That's what bugs me the most.

"According to many economists, the presence of immigrant workers in the United States creates new job opportunities for native-born workers."

@fum+1kJB6G45 - as a manager I have to comment back. There is a reason you were let go. One - you had poor performance two reviews in a row , two- you “exceeded “ as you claim and mgmt was still forced to select people which came down from higher ups or three- you fell into the category or either high pay they wanted to reduce or close to retirement. I’m going to go with 1 or 2, but don’t say supervisors are the incompetent ones. They’re not the ones finalizing your reviews. Above them are. And again as a mgr I see plenty of cr---y staff who don’t perform well or do and have horrible attendance. Yet we cannot put someone on corrective action or get rid of people thanks to HR or legal when we’re trying too.

@sxk

I do not understand the hate here.

Other workers will learn the process or modify the process and who knows may even bring a new way of handling the process.

The bottom line is your hard-working-person was found not suitable. Hurts but that is the truth. BNY will move on. So will the other person. May be you will be left fuming with hate. And looks like you now may have to work with these brown nosers ! Unfortunately you are the one in the miserable part - not the one who was let go, not the ones who stayed back..

BTW did you not stay back ..?

How different it is from the person leaving the firm on his/her own-will or hit by a truck on his way to work. BNY will move on.

Don’t feel bad. I hit my 10 years last year. Always meets/exceeds every single year. 4 different positions with promotions. Doing an amazing job according to my boss. Got a phone call at 10am today, and it’s all over. No reasons, nothing. Luckily I’ve seen this happen so many times over the past 10 years, I was kind of prepared for it.

I lost my position 4 years ago, same date. I lost it because I went from exceeds expectations ratings to overnight does not meet expectations. I lost my role, my position was eliminated. Three years later, my role was suddenly recreated and now sits in Pittsburgh, my replacement is straight out of college with no banking experience. Nothing like trial by fire to learn the job, hahaha.

Back then I thought it was the worst thing to lose my job after 20 years. Today, I’m much better off, my sleep has not been disturbed once by the woke nonsense espoused in that toxic pit.

No one let go should be sorry or feel bad, they are free of inept management and ridiculous 6 month performance reviews by incompetent supervisors and the human reject staff (HR 4U - a joke!).

Good Luck and be well!

Yep, someone I know just got laid off, probably the hardest working person in the office, and now BNY is going to suffer because the reminder of the people in that office call in sick all the time, barely do any work, and some of them don't even know the processes they should have learned years ago. But they were good at kissing a-s so they stayed.
