Ongoing Unemployment Eligibility Check-In with TMS

For those of you who have been previously laid-off, what is the check-in like with TMS?

I know you're supposed to do it within 5 days from receiving your SUB pay, but what kind of questions are asked? Specifically, do they ask anything about state unemployment?

I was laid off in the past and despite all the fancy wording as per above the best I could see was that it was really the honor system to report if you found new employment. As such I always wondered about the real legality of how this is administered. If so this would seem like social security fraud since that was the motivation behind this SUB nonsense in the first place instead of severance; that is, the company (and ex-employee) saves on social security withholding.

@cfbo, that's why it should have been obvious that it's exaggerated.
@bcjf, I'm just picking on whoever finds it challenging to remember their employee ID number,

Yes, it’s about 53,000 to 54,000. You were only off by 45,000 or so.

Good luck with whatever challenges you’re facing. are. Not sure I’m understanding what’s with your posts but I’m sure that you’ll work it out somehow

@5lxa,
sometime when you're googling how to live on the spectrum, google the definition of hyperbole. For normal people it's obvious that I don't think there are fewer than 10,000 employee ID's available.
Oh, and your employee ID is at the top of your pay statement and probably on your employee ID.

@5rcv

Nope, the first THREE digits are zeros. More proof every day here that we hire from the shallow side of the gene pool.

It’s horribly mismanaged. We’re actually expected to know a NINE DIGIT “employee ID number” that we probably got years and years ago. Yes, NINE DIGIT. If not you have to acquire a paycheck copy even though we can no longer access the systems. Talk about Catch 22. Stop the insanity!

“So what happens if the state decides to cut you off, say if they determine you're not actually looking for work?”

I would guess that they believe that you’ve been gaming the system.

Follow the rules, look for a job and enjoy a slower pace of life for a year. It’s easy.

Folks, please print out the rules and read them a few times. This is a huge safety net and really the best benefit that the Bank offers. Make sure that you understand all of the rules and then be sure follow them. This can be a great time to recharge and find a great new job on your own pace or it can be a nightmare.

The below comes straight from the SUB Plan Description document. It CLEARLY states that you must demonstrate continued eligibility for state unemployment, including "Showing receipt of a state unemployment check". So what happens if the state decides to cut you off, say if they determine you're not actually looking for work?

Conditions to Continued Receipt of the SUB Pay Benefit

In order for Eligible Employees to continue to be Participants and remain eligible for the SUB Pay benefit, they will need to periodically confirm with TMS that they remain eligible to receive state unemployment benefits and, as such, continue to be eligible to participate in the SUB Plan, by any of the
following methods:

● Demonstrating that they have reported to and registered with the state unemployment office;
● Showing receipt of a state unemployment check;
● Providing periodic confirmations of continued eligibility; or
● Showing that they could receive a state unemployment benefit except for the fact that they:
● have insufficient wage credits;
● exhausted their state unemployment benefits;
● failed to satisfy a requisite waiting period, provided, however, that their state unemployment benefits will commence once the waiting period expires; or
● elected not to apply for state unemployment benefits due to the anticipated size of the state unemployment benefits or due to some other personal reason.

I'm not sure I'd call it a series of questions. I was severed 2 years ago and from what I remember it was pretty much, "are you eligible for UE" and "do you attest".

Simple as setup your login and attest each pay period online. No need to call in to TMS unless you have questions. Unemployment is the real hassle, you have to stay on top of them because if not they will sc--w things up for you. Contacting by phone was a real pain in the behind!

The TMS process simply asks a series of questions about "Have you applied for Unemployment" , "Have you started receiving Unemployment", "Have you accepted a new position with another company"

Then they make you attest to the information being accurate. You have to do it for each pay period.
