Unemployment in NY vs NJ

Boy are we getting screwed left and right. If you live in NJ but work in NY you have to file with NY unemployment. Maximum weekly pay in NY is $504 while max in NJ is $804

You pay all this money for "new york city" tax and you get almost $200/week less which is $1800 less in unemployment compared to NY per month!

Illiteracy and innumeracy reign at the Bank.

It’s a serious long term problem.

I'm lucky to live and work in NJ, but NY gets screwed even more. NJ only charge 0.425% UI tax, NY is over 2%. So those in NY are paying 5 times as much for insurance and getting less payout. Not to mention if you live in NJ work in NY, you pay tax rate on your NY earnings based upon your joint income.

my math is bad! Meant $300 week less - so $1200 less a month! Not $200 and $1800

Ah tough words. Most of the folks laid off live well while collecting sun pay, no fica, taxes and so on. While other folks are left behind yo take up the slack
So call me what you may, couldn’t care less
