Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

So much turnover at the top of the house

I've been with the first since 2010 and we've had 5 different CEOs. In my current role, I've had a different senior leader every 6-9 months. What happens is many of these senior leaders try to solve problems that don't exist and in turn they create other problems instead. The results are not what they expected and people get laid off. Other people get scared and start to look elsewhere. Slippery slope. New senior managers come in and reverse the stuff their predecessor did but don't stay long enough to finish it. I think this place is just a stop-gap for many people until they find something better. If there was some consistency in the leadership at the top of the house, especially people who have been here for a while, that would be a different story. Take the case of the ASD COO who just got let go - gone after a year and a half. He tried to solve problems that didn't exist, brought in the wrong people, and now certain groups have been completely dismantled. People are leaving in droves now. Now I'm seriously looking at other options. Why am I going to work hard to impress a manager who's probably going to jump ship (voluntarily or not) in less than a year? My friend just joined another bank and his management and senior management has been with the firm on average over 10 years. That just doesn't happen at BNYM.

This never happened. There were never “fancy lanyards” and we never needed two Identity cards.

@8brt,
drive-by CEO's are hired by BOD cronies who are hired by institutional investors who are hired by public pension managers who are hired by politicians

We get the insult to Walmart but Walmart is much better managed than BNYM and infinitely more valuable to the country.

Drive by CEO’s are destroying America. But it’s not going to stop until the interlocking boards of directors open their envelopes, see a pittance and realize that it’s time to deliver.

Been here 3.5 years, I’ve had 7 managers and 3 managing directors. Weird to see how the board allows upper management to use the company as a piggy bank to be sucked dry after leaving top tier banks. Why pay massive premiums to bring In management teams who have no intention of staying? Just massive incompetence.

I was with the bank for 6.5 years and had 6 different bosses!! When you are the Walmart of banking, that's what happens!! The good people simply leave and the bad ones move to another bank!

locations. We all used to have those fancy lanyard with Company details on it, then a incident took place and the entire ID format was changed, and we have been given 2 Identity cards to carry instead of only 1. I still see so many other companies in the vicinity with only 1 ID card with their Company logo on the lanyard, which they use it as a part of Branding , but BNYM has to be unique.

Keep the IDs. They’re good for follow up. Charlie hangs with the many pretty people in the city (San Fran) And I swear… some of them are girls.

For reference…. Too bad that Charlie was too young to be a boomer. He’s been rumored to pay thousands for the boomer life that preceded him by only 10 years…

Wonder if Suresh got his self driving car yet.
Either way, he's the one who introduced the massive security risk by making us enter our pw 100x a day so you pretty much do it with any popup you're presented with which is at least 10 per hour.

What id--ts. Suresh was the guy who pushed for one ID and password for multiple systems and even though it was hokey and fragile it did barely work.

Top 3 Charlie initiative was when he arrived and realized he had multiple company IDs and passwords just to log in. He was a big "tech guy" at Visa and vowed to change that and claimed BNY was now a tech company. That le--o was awesome.

Hey Charlie, maybe not put the company name/logo/address on ID badges so when someone gets drunk and loses it at a bar criminals don't go straight there????

This reminds me of the prestigious ID project led by Charlie Scharf in few locations.

Don’t count the dozens of faux CEOs. There have only been 3 real CEOs since 2010

Gerald Hassle
Todd Gibbons
Robin Vince

Yes, 5 TS CEOs in 6 years. One issue is the glass ceiling that has been created for internal BNYM employees once they get to a certain level/job grade. Anything in the C-suite will be filled by an outsider. Internal people are never considered. "Fresh eyes" and all that BS. Yes, we a just a brief stop to build resumes and receive stupid money on their way to larger banks. Been that way since the merger.
