Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Isn't it shocking that so many people want to be laid off?

I am surprised by how many people openly say that they would like to be laid off. Perhaps the leadership should finally pay some attention to this trend, but I doubt it will happen. It is obvious that BNY Mellon is no longer the workplace it used to be.

@4ira,
I'm not sure why you think we don't understand that we could work somewhere else and that it would be better.
The reason we're downvoting the H-1B nonsense is because it's a lie. A few are highly skilled and most the ones with a master degree are from a country where the average IQ is 82.

@orx

You’re not looking at people’s account balances. Even if you were you’d only be seeing high net worth individuals…. the retail banks are long gone and the only retail clients left have instantly recognizable names. Employees don’t even know their names except by letter.

People whined all during Todd’s two year tenure of zero layoffs and they whined through Scharf’s layoffs. It’s a weird psychosis here where we carp about non-existent layoffs even while we hope to hit the layoff jackpot.

Not sure why so many people are downvoting your post. H-1B workers really are the solution for so many of the Ops jobs which are such drudgery. If you don’t think that you can ever get a good job after displacement with a nice long package you’re wrong.

After a few months off to regain your life and sanity you’re sure to have a positive new attitude and a winning interview.

I was hanging on for a layoff, working massive hours for years and was treated so badly that I was sure that I would be displaced in a layoff. As It turned out, I was too valuable to displace but not valuable enough to reward. So I quit.

Thanks for the downvotes……I am just saying you are providing a reason for management to hate us more and take more away. Trust me, I hate this place now too and I am doing my best to get out of here asap!

It just reinforces managements view that most people in this place don’t want to work. We should not post things like this that can be read in public. Just my opinion…..

With the number of people being let go in January you might all regret saying you wish to be on the list. But since it tends to be more of an enemies list rather than by performances these people will get jobs elsewhere. In any event getting let go is stressful for anyone. I recommend start looking now if you think you’re on waivers

I need to respond to the comment "Every h1b is young, highly skilled and has a master degree"

While that statement might be true, there are more qualified Americans, who are just as skilled (if not more), have multiple certifications/licenses, many are young, others are highly experienced, and many have master degrees from American Universities. The reason why they don't get hired is because management is either looking for slave labor and cheap office space (You get what you pay for!), or they're just too damn lazy and useless to make the effort to seek these American workers out!

I bet most of the people saying this have the living in the parents' basement plan as a backup. Looking at people's account balances more than half the folks making six figures are flat broke and most probably voted Democrat.

I was on a call with a co-worker today, and we were talking about Jan 9th and how we're both totally unconcerned about being laid off at this point. They keep piling on work, but expecting new hires and contractors to do it, which isn't happening.

We also heard that annual reviews are now delayed with a due date at the end of January. I guess they didn't want to deal with reviewing people who'll be gone in a few weeks.

I'm being headhunted by a friend right now, but I haven't had a chance to really dig into their job openings yet. They have $20k sign-on bonuses for some positions, and if an employee recommends someone who's hired for the position, the employee gets $5k plus ten vacation days. Nice!
