Thread regarding Global Payments Inc. layoffs

Legit Question

Do we really think the company will lay off all merchant facing jobs and move to the Phillipines? How could we do that and still be an American company and publicly traded?

This is alarming to think we could lose our jobs just because cost is cheaper in a third world country. Is this what worldpay does? I heard they are closing most buildings down at the end of the year, except Cincinnati, Atlanta, Rochester, and Jacksonvill. Is that true? Thesis is scary times. 😢

That’s because global and the bulk of its acquisitions have promoted solely based on politics.

@rs as if "better" ever mattered. Worldpay has ended up here essentially due to brexit. The UK pound dropped so much that Worldpay UK was bought by vantiv (who were almost as sh--e as global payments) instead of the otherway around and then the whole lot was bought my FIS a year or 2 later. All very smelly, i think old gazza and drucker came up with that plan. Anyways global is just sh--e, how many data centres they got? Like 30 or 40. How many legacy AD domains they got? Like 180 to 200. Full of re--rds, all short term thinking and make no efforts to fully intergrate acquistions. You seem to have a boat load of cluless "senior directors" floating about. All appear to be about 3 grades above what they should be.

"The Worldpay running the show" line depends on the org. Tech solutions seems to be leaning GP leadership which can't be based on merit because GP is a basket case. Seems to be full of talkers rather than doers.

I question how some of you 'know' which offices are or aren't being closed. Worldpay has a smaller historical office that will obviously be folded into GP's larger HQ. WP just within the last 2 years reopened a physical space in Boston and has been hiring there, don't see why that would change now. Cincy and Denver will remain open as well. Would think it's more likely Denver office expands with RTO mandate in fact.

@OP some buildings are closing and/or going through a right size excersize. WFH is done. Too many people abused it. Those that complain about return to office will be let go. Those that try to avoid going to the office or think they dont have to be in the office ( alot of that here in KS) will be let go. I am one of the lucky ones who moved during the pandemic, and an far enough away from any office, but anything can happen. They are making peopke miserable and i believe their intent is to make us quit. Just like my manager did. He's been here longer than most and gave his notice last week. He told me this ship is sinking and I should have a plan. The managers are told by their leaders to not speak about the pending layoffs. Deny deny deny. I am gratful my manager is a good person and gave us a heads up. Many of the state based jobs are headed over seas. Support to manilla, merchant services to India. Managers in the u.s will be reduced by 50%. If you aint filling out resumes and I mean NOW, you are making a mistake. It is taking people 6 months or longer to find work out here in the midwest. I am sure its worse elsewhere.

@pd what makes you think WP is better? If so, why were they sold to Global?

@p5 if you havent noticed, our products are lacking and most have lost confidence in the legacy teams.

@jy Looking at the new Product leadership team, there is a significant tilt toward the Worldpay side - of the N1 and N2 leaders, 8 hail from Worldpay while only 2 are from the Global side

This was supposed to be WP acquisition. I have heard Nichole wants it to be 50/50.
Whoever decided to make her the GR leader.

Talking to a friend yesterday who just got a 600,000 sign on bonus to be vp engineering. Can’t imagine anything like that at global.

It was happening in other regions way before the Worldpay deal

@OP Worldpay is clearly running the show now. Just like we saw with TSYS, the new leadership will probably look to cut costs by clearing out legacy GP staff who are doing the same jobs as their Worldpay counterparts.
