@dd COBRA coverage is retroactive so your doctor's visit with be covered either way.
@OP FWIW, i was laid off 4/10. I did have to see doctor some after that and they ran my insurance twice and said I was still covered. I contacted UHC afterwards and they had no cancellation date for me, but also qualified this with ‘sometimes oracle sometimes a few days behind’ (imagine) - anyway uhc said check back online for updates. I just checked and the date from uhc is 4/30. I also contacted oracle benefits (probably ai agent) that said healthcare ended the 10th. I signed no cobra agreement. I’m going to go with what uhc says.
@bf My experience was that coverage ended on date of termination. If you sign up for COBRA, Oracle pays for the 1st month. You can of course terminate COBRA at anytime.
@OP I assume your regular coverage ended on 4/10/26, but COBRA extended it until the end of the month, and then will extend it until 5/10/26. After that you either continue paying COBRA or switch to a new plan.
When I was laid off last year my insurance ended on the termination date (11/3/25) and the free COBRA month ended on 12/3/25. I paid COBRA until 12/31/25 to maximize my HSA contribution and take advantage of the fact zi had already reached the maximum out of pocket for the year, and switched to a new plan on 1/1/26.
This is the wrong place to come for legitimate information. It's your life are best guesses good enough? If UHC says they will pay claims through 4/30 than I would go with that information. Typically insurance is paid through to the end of the month which aligns with what UHC is saying. However, this is best guess based on previous experience and I am in no way an authoritative source. You should have information on cobra. When does that coverage start and end? I would guess that this is 5/1 through 5/31 for the Oracle paid month. If you are still unsure, before you make an appointment or office visit with a provider call the insurance company and ask if it is covered. Do some research on your own since you are ultimately responsible for any costs you incur.
