If laid off, where would you start your search for a new job? I'm considering leaving the banking sector completely. Everywhere I look, it's the same cr-p, just packaged differently. I'm thinking of trying to join a much smaller bank or just look elsewhere. None of the big banks have any draw for me.

You can take your skills and work in different companies. I did! Look online. Do research and submit your resume. Duh !
This is awesome advice. If you’re a millennial then you are top in class of your generation. This is exactly what I did 40 years ago and when I eventually returned to working for a bank it was on my terms.
You’ll never work even a fraction as hard at BNYM as you will working for yourself, managing your own medical plan managing your own Keogh plan, 12 tax returns per year . And if you ever do return to banking as I eventually did decades later you’ll be absolutely amazed at how unaware of benefits and the world of business your coworkers are.
Start your own business! Disassociate yourself with FAILURE and INCOMPETENCE! These "Executives" running Fortune 500 companies these days are all inept self serving id--ts!
My couch as I would retire!
Not finance, not fintechs, not tech giants.
I enjoyed working at a fairly large Savings & Loan. I was a real go getter in those days and rapidly got major projects, brought them home successfully and was well rewarded and had plenty of recognition. Worst mistake ever was joining BNYM. Go with a small company, but not a small family owned business.
Anywhere else.
