Anyone has been able to negotiate their package or get a better deal by hiring a lawyer?

Depends on a lot of factors, the most important is your jurisdiction and the labour laws that apply to you.
I think you have to have a very strong case, like harrassment., to get extra money. If co makes an exception for 1 and it becomes public, then they may be forced to do for all, which is not in their best interest.
