Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Linked in Posts

The Linked in posts all seem to follow this format. "After X years at Fidelity my role has been eliminated, but I am so grateful, humbled....blah blah for a couple of paragraphs... I've had the privilege...I never felt so valued...as a move on to my next chapter, I do so with immense gratitude and respect for everything that Fidelity stands for"

Then on the opposite spectrum I see recent graduates posting about how excited they are to share that they accepted an offer at Fidelity in some customer service role.

Is there some template that Fidelity is suggesting that people use?

It also feels like Fidelity does not want older people in the organization.

Some d-bag just wrote a piece on linked in about Abby just hours ago. Talked about how hard she worked from just a customer service rep “starting at the bottom” to picking stocks. Trying to make it seem like she is one of the little people. Nah…

The only way I am finding out who was laid off is through linked in. I have been shocked to find out that it's people who have critical business knowledge. No idea how we are supposed to get things done with critical knowledge walking out of the building on Friday.

@bt the list of people laid off was primarily people over 40 and concentrated more at over 45. It was targeted. Get rid of older people with tenure to pave the way for 5,000 juniors who will save the world with AI. Not sure if they thought about who was going to manage all those people, or teach them you can’t wear flip flops to the office.

You want to put up a positive face.

If the corporate borg notices that you have seen behind the curtain, then it will forever freeze you out.

If I was laid off I guess my first inclination would not be to write a linked in post about how much gratitude I have for the employer who has billions in personal wealth and had to “make tough decisions” about people’s livelihood, bringing the remainders back to sit on zoom calls. I think y’all should take a break from singing its praises.

LinkedIn now su-ks as much as Facebook. In fact social media on the whole su-ks. I liked things better when I didn’t know everyone’s thoughts, feelings and comments.

Corporate LinkedIn increasingly reads like Soviet-era propaganda. (I should know. My grandparents fled Eastern Europe and spent the rest of their lives describing systems where everyone publicly praised the institution while privately updating their exit strategy.)

Someone announces their role was eliminated and the post reads like a spiritual retreat sponsored by Human Resources.

“I’m humbled.”
“I’m grateful.”
“I’ve never felt more valued.”

Comrade. They eliminated your position. Don’t try to convince yourself that if you write one more paragraph about “the incredible culture” they’ll suddenly reverse course and come running to hire you back. Large corporations are not feudal kingdoms waiting for one final loyalty speech before restoring your land rights.

I’ve stopped caring and having personal responsibility for things that are not directly my responsibility. I could tell people hey check on this or that because I noticed there’s a problem, but I am not because what’s the point of worrying about nonsense work that doesn’t make a difference.

we just hired a number of people in WI over 40 so not sure how true it is that we're getting rid of older people.

I agree - the very day of the RIF there were so many new college grads posting about their new job at Fidelity. It definitely sends a message that if you're a mid level or senior experienced employee your time is up
