Slogans A'plenty

At&t loves a good slogan they can jam down everyone's throats as if that's going to change anything with how terrible the company actually is. Stinkeys "Marketbased Culture" is the latest. "Fast. Friendly. Fixed" is the other and both couldn't be further from reality. Anything to deviate from highlighting the fact that MOST anyone L3 and higher are overpaid, have nothing valuable to contribute and actively waste everyone else's time DAILY. THE ONLY REAL REASON anyone is still working here (and I will say for the majority of people) is the job market is also so trash right now, no one can risk being out of a job for an extended period of time especially if they have homes and families. That whole "just leave" argument is cute though.

It's exhausting to feel like we're just a line item to be eliminated

Whenever they talk about reducing costs, we're the cost they want to cut. Do they seriously think the company can survive without the people who actually do the work? Not the ones who attend meetings about meetings, but the people who keep things running. We're supposed to be their best asset, but we're treated like we're completely disposable. Job security feels like a distant memory at this point.

The competitive landscape

I’m taking about the obvious ones (Veeva Systems, IQVIA, etc). Are they currently hiring Medidata employees? Any no-compete clauses for your standard IC/middle management personnel? Are they also going through the same layoff and cultural struggles as Medidata right now? For anyone working for Medidata competitors (either of equal size or smaller) has it been an improvement for your mental health?

Layoffs in Data Center and AI Group

Layoffs in Data Center and AI Group are part of restructuring, even though the division reported strong revenue growth and rising demand for AI...

Intel says it needs the right roles and skills for long-term success, but it has not said how many employees will lose their jobs or why more cuts are needed after earlier large layoffs.

The layoffs have raised concerns about job security in the tech industry and have reduced employee trust in companies that continue to invest in AI while cutting jobs.

What's the better option?

If I wait to be laid off, I'll get severance and unemployment (allowed in my state), but I'll be competing with everyone else who got cut for very few available jobs. If I quit, I get nothing but I can have a new job ready before I leave so there is no uncertainty. Neither option is ideal. I'm sure others have been mulling this over as well, I'm curious what you've decided to do.

SE > AE > LR

Are SEs going to become AEs and AEs will become LRed?
Seems that way to me with the direction of tech. Teachings sales to engineers is easier than teaching engineering to sales ppl. With agents, I see a push to consolidate this to a single role. sink/swim ppl. An overlays and CX...good luck survirving Agentic-pocolypes

Just a number after 20 years

I spent two decades here. I showed up every day, I gave it my all, I went above and beyond, I never once had a complaint about my work. And what did that get me? Nothing. I'm out of a job and looking back, I realize I was just a number to them. All that loyalty and effort didn't count for anything in the end.

Three paths forward

All of us basically have got three choices. Stay and take the abuse. Move up internally for a real raise. Or leverage the name on the resume and get a big bump somewhere else while Oracle still means something (it won't for long). Frankly, I don't want to stay where I'm not valued.

Some things never change

Profits down? Lay off the workers. Profits up? Lay off the workers anyway to show even better numbers. There's no scenario where we come out ahead. No matter what happens, we're the ones who get sacrificed. It makes you wonder if there's any situation where the rank and file aren't the first to go.

Thoughts on things

Seeing all the panic about no raises this year and past cuts. Honestly im not worried about job security at all.
Were going hard on AI with AgentStack and that Autonomous Knowledge Platform. Leadership is putting the money where it counts to actually win instead of little bumps. Cloud numbers looking good and we got cash from the SAP settlement. Feels solid to me.
On a personal note this place reminds me of the strength in the LDS Church. The Mormon Church does such a great job building for the long term, focusing on preparation, self reliance and helping people. Their community is so strong and they invest smart in the future. Tithing, welfare programs and emphasis on education its all about thriving even when things get tough. Grateful for that example it keeps me positive here too. As it says in the Bible "therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself" (Matthew 6:34). And "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). That faith helps a lot.
Still bullish on my role and the roadmap. No need for everyone to freak out.
Anyone else at Teradata feeling the same?

Steelworkers Face Job Cuts

A significant number of employees at a major steel plant are being laid off. This reduction in workforce is attributed to a challenging economic climate impacting the industry. The company cited decreased demand and increased operational costs as primary reasons for the decision. Affected workers will receive support packages as they transition. This move signals ongoing difficulties within the steel manufacturing sector.

Jobless Claims Fall, Labor Market Stays Strong

US unemployment claims saw a significant decrease last week, falling to 208,000. This drop was more substantial than economists had predicted. The four-week average of claims also decreased, indicating continued labor market resilience. Continuing claims also eased, suggesting fewer people are remaining unemployed long-term. These figures point to employers holding onto their staff despite economic uncertainties.

Wells Fargo Continues Workforce Reduction

Wells Fargo has eliminated 79,000 jobs over the past six years as part of an ongoing efficiency program. The bank's headcount has decreased for 24 consecutive quarters, with a further reduction of 3,500 employees in the last quarter. Executives anticipate operating with fewer staff due to advancements in technology and AI. Despite these cuts, Wells Fargo is actively hiring in growth areas like customer-facing roles and technology development. This strategic workforce reshaping aligns with broader industry trends of leveraging automation while investing in specialized positions.

What are people even working on?

Are EchoStar employees still calling themselves “disruptors”?. The pay TV business is bankrupt, satellite TV is dying, Sling isn’t competitive, the wireless strategy has been abandoned, and Hughes is under pressure… what exactly are you disrupting? I have an offer but I am wondering if it’s even worth taking

Latest update

It sounds like everything is out now.

We sold a significant amount of doors to the agents... The good news is, those employees will have a job. I’m told we’re keeping a thousand corporate doors and that my team and I are safe for at least 3 years, do we trust that? Looks like operations took a significant hit, who is going to do that work?

Overall, I feel lucky, but feel awful for anyone who is impacted.

State Budget Secures Prosecutor Staffing, Averts Layoffs

A new state budget has provided crucial funding for Genesee County's prosecutor's office. This development averts the threat of layoffs for 32 employees. The funding supports a program aimed at adding staff to prosecutor offices in high-crime areas. This financial relief prevents a significant budget hole for the county. Employees can now expect continued employment without fear of job loss.

Evicore folks

Are we getting out now or riding it out and seeing what happens? Trying to decide if it’s better to jump ship now or wait and see if they clear house if/ when we are sold… maybe can get a severance that way but then will be competing with others looking for jobs at the same time
