Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Slowing Agent Changes

I laughed out loud when I watched KC's video message last week saying SF is now decided to slow the rollout of the Agent contract changes. Just another evidence of the incompetence of this executive leadership team. Sounds like someone didn't do their homework or anticipate how badly agents were getting sc--wed. #eggonface

State Farm is facing widespread unrest and discontent across its workforce, driven by significant commission cuts, the elimination of health insurance benefits for independent contractor agents, and corporate staffing reductions. The situation has manifested in several distinct ways across different branches of the company:

@wp or they have no comp/coll/rental/ers but put in a claim online that they wrecked their car hitting a deer or something laying in the road then call saying they need to get a rental car. We can't help these mental mid-ets.

When done right Agency is an asset. I do so love the claims where the insureds did everything themselves online to get the best rate. I delight in telling them their A 25/50/25 won't repair their 2022 Land Yacht they are upside down on because they don't carry collision and no they can't get a rental because they went cheap on that too. I further enjoy kicking the claim to Tier 2 for excess exposure when that $25K won't cover the 3 parked and unoccupied vehicles they bulldozed into.

@qv Except that in spite of all the anecdotal evidence….agency produced business has the lowest loss ratios. At State Farm, or any other carrier.
Now, this is the part where you downvote documented fact because it doesn’t support your position.

The announcement of agency changes then the roll back was by design. It was to plant the seed in all current and future agents that the pillar of agency model is starting to crack. Anyone in the fence of becoming an agent probably went back their own side. Like some of these other posts mention, it seems lkke State Farm has now been creating the environment for the employees to voluntarily leave before considering layoffs.

UL drivers is costing us billions, Underwriting is toothless as the agency just has to tell a manager the customer is mad and theyll cave in on whatever issue was identified, regardless of its impact to losses. Agency is a MASSIVE driver is UW losses, massive, and a lot of it comes from the massive amount of soft fraud thats allowed.

Really? Most the agency staff need directions how to open the resources they never use, let alone finding info, let alone understanding it at a level where it can be explained clearly to the customer. Friends in underwriting state its super common for agents and staff to email managers about bad info given, call is pulled and its explained correctly they just lack the skill set to understand what needs to be done. Customer gets mad and leaves, agency blames UW and everyones happy with this.

Why do we have hordes of low skill untrained staff members selling stuff they cant even explain and dont even try looking at a resource?

Agents themselves seem to be out of three buckets, homely nice and generally good at the job, a bully who uses intimidation to get things over turned that would have protected the company's reserves, or absent and letting a bunch of clueless staff members who couldnt shake it at a drive thru run the show.

As much as i want to get out of claims and move over to underwriting, it sounds like more a customer service role where you manager needs to deal with every other call, because their fist instinct is to complain to a manager vs learning how to look stuff up. And its not just one or two underwriters, i hear this from just about every one of them. If it wasnt for claims awful reputation i think the underwriters would all just leave for claims.

For what its worth, whatever State Farm is doing right now isnt working at all in any way. Agency, claims, underwriting, customer support. I know the executives want to fire off all the insurance side and turn into some tech company, for which results have been thus far some of the worst designed tech ive ever interfaced with.....

We desperately need people serious about insurance back running this company. Accountant CEOs are not working as intended.

I see both sides... UL makes sense as historically anyone in Claims will tell you there has been some crazy "permissive" use going on. On the other hand educating the insureds failed miserably. Too many agents offices were too busy to educate and do household reviews (and missed out on business) and blame Claims because it isn't 1993 anymore.

Close the door the horse got out!

It's already known what their intentions are. The customers are upset. SF thinks their marketing is WNBA. It's not! It's the people who provide their service. I'm convinced they are brain dead.

SLOWING THE ROLL OUT. This stupid company cannot make a plan and follow through. What id--t jumped the g-n on the Agency changes. Are Agents going file a law suit. What is backing the company up? Welcome to number 3 or 4. This has got to be the most id--tic run company of all time. What a freaking mess.

Executives seem to somewhat care about agency, something corporate customer facing roles only dream about. They use our surveys to keep us unhappy as much as possible vs making concessions. Must be nice. Either way, onward march to #3 !!
