Thread regarding T. Rowe Price Group Inc. layoffs

State of T. Rowe Price in 2026

This is my view of where we are in '26. Take allof this with a grain of salt as I've been wrong many times before. This is reflecting my views and I am not sharing any internal information. And, yes, I am angry:

  1. The culture has changd and not for the better.
  2. Bottom-up ideas no longer seem to matter. Period.
  3. Politics + self-preservation are in, real leadership is out
  4. WAY TOO MANY managers, way too little accountability.
  5. Collaboration is talked about. it is NOT practiced.
  6. Quality people are leaving. Some are waiting for the right time to jump.
  7. AI just an excuse to cut roles. OK, maybe has some bus use too.
  8. Some teams are way too bloated - some teams have already been cut way too deep.
  9. Offshore turns companies to sh-t, it's happening to us to. Poor quality, poor oversight.
  10. Value standards have slipped, enshitification is in progress.
  11. Come in and work/collaboration in office, but it's OK to ship work offshore. Sick.
  12. Morale is low, trust is weak, and it's gettin worse.
  13. The old T. Rowe Price is gone.

@19w Because he is a strategic leader - not just Finance - and he fits the bill.

@18h I do think it’s VERY odd that a finance manager was chosen to lead AI. Why if not with a goal of lowering costs first and figuring out logistics later?

@18h No it doesn't. You need to know the individuals involved and the specifics of the role and you have got it totally wrong...

@18h Round One: If a low skilled Accenture worker can be trained to kinda sorta do your job (at least the easier parts) you will be let go. Phase Two: If AI can do your job, you will be let go. This place has become anti-worker. I guess when you fire workers by the dozen you can keep hiring more managers, "Strategy leads", etc. I still do not understand my management chain - so many layers I cannot imagine what all of them do, and some hired very recently. My advice is to start looking now no matter what department you are in - even if casually. Get an idea of what job descriptions want and take training in Degreed to fill any gaps. Maybe even connect with a recruiter. Unless you can retire today or soon, chances are you will not be retiring from here.

I’m surprised nobody’s making a fuss about this, but the new head of the AI strategy team was picked from the finance side? That’s basically them saying ‘if AI can replace you, we’ll be laying people off left and right.’ The smart ones are already jumping ship. lol

I agree with all of this. Recently I went on vacation. People commented that I was more like myself after a few days. When I returned to work the bitterness and frustration returned by lunchtime. The only path for me is out of here. Incompetent and inept Accenture workers treated like the "stars of the show" when they are sh-t. Once something comes up complicated or they do not have For Dummies style steps to go through they are fked. And there are too many managers. Why can't they fire some of them for a change? They won't have to do year end/bonus reviews or approve timesheets for the offshore workers. They have their own boss in their country who will lie for them, just like they did when they passed off unskilled workers as "experienced". There used to be a saying "You get what you pay for". It needs to make a comeback. They are so high on the "savings" they will blast through this place with a chainsaw. Next level clown management. I noticed that in many cases only white men are kept after the cuts. Really take stock of how you are when in office and when away for an appreciable amount of time. This place is toxic and should come with a warning label. At some point the money is just not worth it.
