Band promotion- consulting

Are band promotions happening in Consulting this cycle? For band 6,7 and 8. How does the outlook and budget looks like?

No. Most Consulting headcount is going to India. What remains in the US is mostly CIC (or whatever ridiculous new name they have). Outside of the CICs, they mostly want Band 6 and new grad hire Band 7, because they are cheapest. Band 8-10 and Band D and C in US Consulting are all living on borrowed time.

@hg IBM is where hard work and and accomplishments do not get you recognition and promotions. It is no longer a meritocracy. It is all about favoritism and sycophants. Just look at Albany for the last 5-6 years. It’s so blatant they don’t even bother covering it up with a weak cover story anymore.

@Ej. ÌBM would gladly give up 50-65% of their consulting business as its low profit labor intensive repeditive task operations. The problem is no one else wants that kind of business either and that includes the body shop operations like wipro. IBM knows this and is hoping AI will automate that 50-65% of the business. Until then the only hope is IBM throws something else into the mix, to make the acquirer feel like there is value there. (Eg TSS, scale out power and/or storage, or perhaps the entire BP and cloud operation).

Why would anyone worry about promotions, bonuses and such when you work for such a trash company? IBM doesn't care about you. There is no loyalty. Better to get out of that dumpster and breathe the fresh post-IBM air before it's too late.

@ej
What do you by "We" ?
Either you are a member of the cabal of slimy executives or not ?
The slimy Indian at the top is doing his best to steal from the common IBM employees. He is following the footsteps of the previous slimy executives before him. Going back to the slimy Gerstner.

Arvind will soon be the 4th IBM CEO to leave with well over $100,000,000 of IBM employee and shareholder monies. All started 4-1-93 when Gerstner came in and set IBM on the path of "financial engineering" vs making great things as it did for decades. I was there for 10 years before Gerstner and 10 after and he only cared about 1 thing and 1 person.

Sam Palmisano (2012): Stepped down as CEO with an exit and pension package valued at approximately $271M, largely consisting of accumulated deferred compensation, pension value, and equity.

Louis Gerstner (2002): Stepped down with an estimated total severance and retirement package of $189M.

Virginia (Ginni) Rometty (2020): Retired from the CEO role with realized lifetime compensation exceeding $144M, much of which vested upon her departure.

John Akers (1993): Retired following a difficult financial period for the company; his exit package included pension payouts and standard benefits, but did not cross the $100M threshold.

He counts every paperclip, measures the tape,
And watches the clock with a miserly gape.
His office is freezing, the heater is dead,
"Wear sweaters," with a cheerful grimace, he has said.

The breakroom fridge offers a sad, barren space,
Just a half-gallon jug of "expired" Nutrish-Trace.
He buys the off-brand coffee, the kind that tastes sour,
And docks fifteen minutes if you use the commode for an hour.

No bonuses given, no raises allowed,
But he constantly talks of how "we" make him proud.
He jets to the Bahamas in first class for the view,
While handing out Staples gift cards to the crew.

So raise up your mugs of lukewarm tap water,
To the tightest employer on this side of the border!

We should sell IBM Consulting to Kyndryl - IBM's Toxic Asset Fund.

Consulting organizations thru out the world are on hard times. Too many organizations are chasing too few engagements thus rates have dropped to rock bottom. Even IBM consulting and its separate strategy of hybrid enterprise AI has been impacted and the ratings agency’s have labeled IBM consulting the weak sister

There is very few, if any, promotion this year. Not enough money, times are hard for IB>
There is just enough money to pay for the bonus of the slimy Indian at the top.
Better luck, next year.
