Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Ready for the next round

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm actually looking forward to the possibility of being laid off. If they offered voluntary packages, I'd take it in a heartbeat. I'm just completely exhausted by Shell.

With no voluntary severance, they open themselves to all sorts of games like applying only for promotions. They could ring-fence you but then you're not really going through a reorg.

@ff I agree that chemicals assets are on the sale block but the remaining refining assets are needed for asset-based trading. This was brought to light after huibert sc--wed up downstream by selling off assets while convincing BVB and Voser that trading could make money without refineries. Since that was all but proven to not be feasible, we’re left holding onto what we have. Trading needs the remaining footprint for hedging and shorts on products. Reporting directly to ceo gave trading autonomy from downstream but also is bringing to light its reliance on refineries. All around I think it’s a good thing. We need both orgs for success and the transparency into trading will just help it be more effective.

@fe Wael does not see the future or care about the staff and the efforts they put in…only the top line. Shell will sell more downstream assets just don’t know when

Shell lifers…your future is as follows. Before 2027 a massive reorg where 20% of staff will be made redundant. Top management will advertise technology, AI , and lots of hard diligent work. Those that remain gainfully employed will have to make a sacrifice…the universe is not as cozy as your cubicle…it’s going to get heavy before it gets better. Dare you to challenge this…

@bm There ought to be a place between those two poles. With better top management and smarter decisions, the re-orgs ought to come every 5-7 years, not every 2-3 years. But Shell pays well and had good benefits relative to the bigger working world. With that, people do not leave so often and they have to do some purging. Is just a fact. The problem is that it has become so constant that it is starting to hurt the quality of the work. Everyone can see it. Needs better long-term thinking, succession planning, from the 1s and 2s. And Equity needs to be defined as equal opportunity for jobs by ability, and not holding people back due to color or culture or s-x/gender. It should not be defined as as a thing to re-wired society. Shell already has become fairly colorblind. The DEI right now is s-x-based, and it is very obvious.

On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone goes to zero. It's just one big continuous re-org these days.

Not exactly the best time to be unemployed, even with a pkg. Unless your 2nd major was cardio-electrophysiology, anesthesiology or something similar, you’ll likely burn thru the pkg money before you land a position with equal or better pay and benefits.
