I was laid off in June and filed UI with my state, it was initially approved but 3 weeks later got 2 consecutive letters in which contain wrong info. about my work hours, apparently freaking Dell initially told the state I worked 2800 hours in the base year, when state asked them for clarification, they send first 1400 hours then later change to 0, what a f**king incompetent company this!

This is from Texas. I was laid off in August 2024, ( I was 65 and my manager knew I wanted the WFR), and received 6 months severance check on August 30th. I applied for Texas Workforce Commission UI in September and was approved based on credits and salary from Dell.
Here is the catch, since I received 6 months severance even though it was in one check, I was not able to actually get a UI checks until Feb 2025. They did waive the one week holdback and I requested my benefit check in Mar. and it paid bi-weekly for 6 months. I did have to let them know that I applied for 4 jobs for every benefit week.
Note for Texas: Maximum benefit time is 26 weeks over one year. Max. weekly pay is/was $591 per claim week and is taxable.
In Massachusetts you get unemployment. The severance package not relevant. Other states like Texas have different rules. I received 30 weeks unemployment for about $30,000.
it's a lump sum payment, you can get unemployment after that check.
@ad You can only get UI after severance runs out, assuming you're still unemployed.
