Negotiating severance

Has anybody tried to negotiate their severance, especially from this most recent layoff? Tips, tricks etc … they denied my counter

They wont take you seriously unless the letter comes from an attorney. If this is your first letter to them, why woundnt they turn it down just because? Remember you have to build a business case for them in order to prove to them you are serious and have a case.

@OP How did you approach your counter? Are you going to try again? I hope things work out for you. It's hard to know what to do and how to do it. It's been shocking and out of the blue for me and my family.

The purpose of the severance payment is to secure a release of claims. CDW cuts those checks to guarantee that former coworkers can’t sue them later.

They’ll only pay more if you can demonstrate that the CDW faces liability for terminating you. Common justifications demanding for a larger severance include claiming the owe you unpaid compensation such as disputed commissions or implying that your termination may have been due to discrimination (age, gender, race, disability, etc.), retaliation for a protected activity, or another unlawful reason.

If you tried to negotiate directly without hiring an attorney, hire an attorney who specializes in employment law. CDW doesn’t take their liability seriously until an employee is represented by counsel.
