Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

"Laid off", not "impacted"

I wish people would stop parroting the "impacted" euphemism. It's either "laid off" or "fired". Not even "RIF", because that implies that the job is gone. The job is never gone, it's just done by someone else that remains.

RIF stands for reduction in force...

Doesn't say anything about job being gone, just literally the workforce shrinking.

@b6 way back when, RIFs were explained like "we're not laying you off per se, we're getting rid of the work you do". Of course that was a shameless lie as the people still employed had to do their jobs plus the supposedly discontinued work.

OP. You are focused on the wrong thing. Semantics Gone is gone no matter what you call it

Of course…what a good time to hyper focus on semantics. What…are you one of those “too smart for the common folk” engineers that relies on your radio shack knowledge base about how 5G works and fights tooth and nail on unnecessary calls to get your way in an M&P that you think is going to save the world? I’d say the powers that be missed one today if you’re not impacted, rifed, laid off, s canned.

@b5 Please enlighten me about how I should interpret: stop parroting the "impacted" euphemism. It's either "laid off" or "fired"

Verizon didn’t a number on me I could see right through their lies and BS since day one starting with “Integrity is at the core of everything we do”

If less people on a team are covering the work that is a rif. A reduction to cover the same work.

I feel sorry for you if the truth offends you. Verizon really did a number on you.

OP didn't imply that fired and laid off are synonymous.

@OP That’s stupid and offensive. I’m not going to waste my time explaining the difference between fired and laid off.
