Imperial Brain Drain

As there has been a steady stream of departures, the IOL brain drain continues. Lots of very talented folks from all levels of the organization leaving to pursue other options. It's been very interesting to watch all the unique opportunities that people have landed - some going to traditional integrated companies (Suncor, etc), others going to Midstream companies, smaller firms, renewable/low carbon energy, consulting, and more.

Many of those who had left before the announcement already seem to be making their mark with their new organizations, securing promotions, etc. It's been really great seeing people thrive at life and careers after Imperial.

For those that are still there, there's a great network of recent IOL departures across industry now, so keep in touch. And while not everything is perfect, the grass can be a lot greener elsewhere.

@wh Which one are you? Have you jumped shipped and thrived at another OG companies?

@tb The intellegent ones have bolted the stable and have found employment with Suncor, CNRL and other junior O&G players with potential long term careers and scope for progression. The corporate inbreds, who are chanting the same hackneyed "controls and Rep. Letter" mantra for the last 15 years and have made it into a career are still around. We pay top dollars and incentives for these no brainer activities. There is no culture of developing critical thinkers and bisiness savvy leaders. That is why we are dying a slow death.

@k0 there are still opportunities left for some of the brown nosers as long as they stick their nose high enough into the a$$hole

@jn yes, it definitely does seem like they are accommodating some of their favourites by letting them stay in Calgary.

The difference I see is that 20 years ago with the Toronto move, most people still saw future progression opportunities and were willing to move for it. Now, most people are fleeing for the exits, as there's no growth opportunities left.

As with the Calgary move twenty years ago, the favorites, largely unemployable zero value add brown nosers will be retained with sweetheart deals. They will be accommodated in Calgary without having to move to Edmonton like the rest of us.
